"Oh jeez, thanks for the guilt, now I know I don't deserve this as much as others."

If you get in you deserve to get in! Just because someone has higher test scores or GPA does not make them more appealing to the school. Your essay could be showing alot more passion, your teacher recommendations may be way better.

For those who did not get in, I feel for you. You just have to believe that they are able to identify who will be a good match for the school. A rejection does not take away from your awesome stats, not matter how horrible it feels. You guys are still amazing and brilliant.

Today, I was anxiously waiting for the mail, figuring my Caltech letter might be in there. So when the mail finally came (2 hours later than the people down the block...), I was pretty psyched.

I look at the mail and see... a big envelope! It looks just about the right size for an acceptance letter. I turned the envelope over to see the address. It was from UBS, addressed to my mother.

Rejected

sorry to hear that. I didn't expect to get an acceptance letter from CalTech because I thought it would be harder than MIT, from which I got deferred.

[*]Advice? Commiserations? Feel like bragging?: Not gonna lie, I wasn't expecting a waitlisting, so I'm rather happy with this. Good job to those who got in, good luck to those waitlisted, and sorry to those denied. [/ul]

I want to cry, and I didn't even get rejected yet. :(

What's the point of waitlisting if they let you know after the date you have to reply to your other schools? It seems that in that light a waitlist is as good as a rejection, unless you can actually withdraw your reply for admission somewhere else.

a waitlist isn't a rejection really, because it's an opportunity, whereas a rejection basically closes a door for you. if waitlisted, I think I'd think of it almost like purgatory or something :P idk, there's always the chance we'll be taken off the waitlist. getting accepted after getting rejected just doesn't fly lol

i mean, the waitlist letter said waitlist decisions will be mailed by june 15. thing is, i gotta reply to my accepted colleges by may 1... can i revoke that may 1st matriculation if i get a spot at caltech off the waitlist?

^^^Yes, in that case the promise of attending you made to the first school will automatically get canceled and the Caltech one will then be valid.
