2013 Single Choice Early Action applicants thread

sure. what’s your uscf rating?

^ er, I’d rather not disclose that. That is like a big pointer shouting “look at me” cuz only like 2 people our age have the same USCF rating.
It’s >1700 if you care.

Is it 1904?

What is this UCSF?
(UC San Francisco?)

US Chess Federation, I think.

Oh, I gave up on chess so many years ago – never winning a victory against my MIT-going brother might have had something to do with that. :stuck_out_tongue: But I can, and do, own him at no limit hold’em though (I’m more bold, he’s more cautious) :)

How about getting another SCEA post here instead of getting my USCF rating. :/

hahaha okay OneKingOneLife :D

8 dayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyys. Just thinking about it gives me butterflies in my stomach. Oh well, I know I’ll get deferred (because about 60% do, and I have nothing really special). Time to fill out other college apps please? :P

Objective:[ul]
[] ACT:34
[] SAT II: US Hist - 780, Physics - 750, Lit-740
[] Unweighted GPA (out of 4.0): 3.9ish (W 4.14ish I think)
[] Rank (percentile if rank is unavailable): Top 10% (school doesn’t rank, but I’m def. top 1,2, or 3)
[] AP (place score in parenthesis): APUSH (5), American Gov. (5), Physics B (5)
[] Senior Year Course Load: AP Calc (AB), AP Macroeconomics, AP Chemistry, AP English (lit), Spanish V (H), Cold War, Race in the US
[] Major Awards (USAMO, Intel etc.): Hmm…not on the truly national scale.
[/ul]Subjective:[ul]
[] Extracurriculars (place leadership in parenthesis): Class President, very involved in water conservation (wrote & passed legislation), super involved in campaigns (have held titles like Deputy Field Director, Deputy Campaign manager, etc.), Policy intern at State Capitol, various speech and debate positions/activities, etc.
[] Job/Work Experience: See above for campaigns (up to 14 hour days in summers)
[] Volunteer/Community service: Mainly in water conservation/environmental involvement (it, along with politics are my passions).
[] Summer Activities: Have worked a lot in politics (internships at state capitol, staffer during campaign (in charge of big region), a lot of conservation stuff.
[] Essays: Good
[] Teacher Recommendation: Great I think, hopefully.
[] Counselor Rec: Good
[] Additional Rec: From a State Legislator whom I am very good friends with.
[] Interview: Went very well.
[/ul]Other[ul]
[] State (if domestic applicant): Colorado
[] School Type: Small Private Magnet
[] Ethnicity: White
[] Gender: Male
[] Income Bracket: Middle Class
[] Hooks (URM, first generation college, etc.): My passion and heavy involvement with conservation and politics.
[/ul]Reflection[ul]
[] Strengths: Very concentrated ECs, good scores/grades overall, interview, recs.
[] Weaknesses: Have taken the most rigorous course load possible, so for example I got a B and a B+ in AP Calc and English, which are impossible to get As in at my school basically. All As and A-s though otherwise. I don’t know if that will really hurt significantly. I guess I’ll find out December 15!
[/ul]General Comments: Good Luck!! For God, For County, and For YALE!!

How is “Have taken the most rigorous course load possible” a WEAKNESS.

I swear people, stop posting these things to boost your freaking egos.

Also, if you’re using your SAT II scores, doesn’t that mean they see your SAT I scores anyway?

Aww, Blueducky, be nice to the Colorado kid. Not everyone grew up in heaven… cough Bay Area cough.

No, seriously though, He’s not competing with you anyways. Yale splits up competitors by regions.

Although, how can you apply with no SAT 1 score and yet you took the SAT 2s?

Isn’t that kind of counterintuitive?

I took the SAT I, but I chose to use my ACT. They’ll be able to see my SAT I score, but I reported my ACT score on my common app. It wasn’t horrible, but my ACT was a bit better. My SAT IIs are really just a plus.

No it’s not the fact that it affects me in admissions, it’s just that people freak out over such stupid little things that they don’t even care how it may come off on other people.

Complaining about one low grade? I mean, come on, I have a B too i’m not complaining! Stuff happens. You’re human.

It has nothing to do with being in colorado or in california or whatnot. Really.

Our school doesn’t have too many opportunities actually, King. At least not as much compared to your school.

Lol, my school doesn’t have that many opportunities, mainly because everyone’s trying to slit each other’s throats.

It’s quite disgusting, actually.

I know what you mean, OneKingOneLife.

This year has made me realize that many of my friends weren’t my friends at all.

Sort of sad that I realize this senior year. And that college admissions is what brings it out.

^ That sucks. We should seriously just have everyone from CC fly over to Yale a couple days early and have a CC party. How awesome would that be?

haha i’m glad my school isn’t that cutthroat.

DUDE! My school too!! About losing friends. Geez.

Like I totally found out my friend didn’t vote for me for one of the club elections! I really could have used her vote too. I thought we were HELLA good friends, but apparently, college is more important.

And the sad part is, our school isn’t even that competitive! It’s just the 5 people at the top battling it out. GEEZ. You don’t even KNOW. I walk around and people just approach me to ask me what my class rank is. You know how ANNOYING that can be? Sometimes i feel like people wouldn’t even care about me if i wasn’t ranked so high or something.

CC is just awesome. Period. How did you hear about cc, King? From your buddy? ;)

hehe. nope.

Actually it’s really awkward, because >50% of the people I know look at CC. I’m certain some people from my school looked over my stats and were like, “It’s that guy!”

But it was at like this competition where my friend’s TASP decision was going to come out. Everyone else was asleep but I guess I wanted to show some support if she got in (it also helped that she was quite cute but that’s another story. ;)) We stayed up until 5 AM and like she spent the entire time pressing f5 on CC.

Needless to say, I was totally rocked the next day, but it was worth it? ionno.

Yeah, people think I know about college admission stuff because I’m “smart” (trust me, I’m not) so they ask me everything from what to put on their CSU app to when to apply to Wellesley. It’s a pain in the butt and I still know neither. xD

I know NOBODY at our school who uses CC. No joke. Our school like celebrates mediocrity. I like how you’re on cc, but not on AIM. So much for physics midterm, eh?

lol “it’s that guy!” that’s kind of how i felt when you told me who you were! helps that ur friend put “X is so gay” on your picture, huh?

^^^^ This is why the Yale threads > Harvard threads.

Nothing against Harvard, but our discussions are friendly and cordial :)
