<p>Hey all, I figured that now would be a good time to start posting about transferring from one UC to another for Fall 2013. So start sharing your stats and helping others out below! :D</p>
<p>Oops, I forgot to include my own info, so I’ll start off:</p>
<p>GPA: Expecting it to be around 3.85 (maybe a 4.0, if I get lucky)
GEs Completed: None
Prereqs Done: All will be done by Spring 2013, except for one (C Programming)
Major: Physics
AP Units: 36 units
Transferring from: UC Santa Cruz
Applying to: UC Davis
ECs: Part time job as a computer engineer at UCSC, 1000+ hours of community service in high school, Key Club in high school, Interact Club in high school, etc.
Number of units completed: 98 quarter units</p>
<p>I’m also going the junior-level transfer route in one year, so I just got out of high school, and am currently taking classes (14 units) at my local community college and then I’ll be off to UCSC this Fall. Then it’ll be off to Davis in Fall 2013 (hopefully!). :D</p>
<p>GPA: Currently 3.1 something (hopefully can raise to 3.4 by the end of Fall)
GEs Completed: Most of it
Prereqs Done: Done for UCLA, Majority Done for the rest
Major: Business Economics
Transferring from: UCR
Applying to: UC Davis, UCI, UCLA, USC, UCSD
ECs: Part time for CL Global Systems, 4 years of volunteering at Saint Thomas Religious Education Program, Beta Phi Delta Community Service Frat
Number of units completed: currently 69 quarter units, will take 18 in the Fall.</p>
<p>I didn’t fail any classes but in my freshman year at UCR, I got one C every quarter :/… Last quarter was pretty bad because I had pledging at the time, so I ended with a passing class with no grade, a B and a C which brought my GPA down. This fall quarter will probably be even harder cause I’m taking two upper division courses at the same time. Do UC’s check the grades after the fall quarter? I’ve talked to the USC counselor and she told me to bring my grade up during the fall and winter quarter so I could have a chance.</p>

ECs: bunch of random clubs, activities, and community service. Most prominent EC is a summer internship with a university
Number of units completed: 106 credits by the end of next spring quarter expected</p>
<p>All my hope is in UCLA though, trying to get into the engineering geology major. Hopefully I can make it since usually 3-5 people apply and about 2-4 people make it in every year.</p>

<p>The last grades the UC’s will consider are those of the Fall Quarter/Semester prior to transfer. Some say those are the most crucial. I do not know about USC’s policy. </p>

<p>lol i think santa cruz is the kind of place where you either love it or you don’t.
A lot of people love the small town setting and the nature setting, but I’d rather be living in a major city area. I like the views and the beauty of the school and the people are really nice but i just think its a boring place to be when you’re not in class.</p>
<p>do you guys think that a 3.87 is competitive for MCDB at UCLA and Applied Mathematics at UCB? I’m applying from ucsd!</p>
<p>^Assuming you have most of the pre-reqs complete, I’d say you are highly competitive for MCDB @ UCLA. I know I’ve chanced you before but I think it was for Applied Mathematics lol. Message me anytime if you have questions about the specifics.</p>
<p>Quick question for all of you guys who have transferred from UCSC/are transferring from UCSC this year:</p>
<p>Do the core writing classes satisfy one of the two English writing composition requirements? I have one finished already because I got a 4 on my AP English exam, but I’m not sure if my Core class will count for the other one. For those who are from other campuses and don’t know what I’m talking about, all freshmen at UCSC are required to take a “Core Writing class” during the Fall. It’s an english composition class, so it should technically count for the writing requirement right?</p>
<p>Also, if my core class doesn’t count, would it hurt me to have an english class sometime in the Winter/Spring? I’m asking this because the UC officials will see that I’ve fulfilled both my writing requirements, but they won’t know what my grade in one of my writing classes is. Thanks guys!</p>
<p>You can always check in ur ucsc portal by going to student center, then going to my academics, then going to view my advisement report. In the advisement report, you’ll be able to see all your GEs and requirements for the school and if you scroll down towards the bottom, you should be able to see the C1 and C2 writing requirements and it will tell you if they’re fulfilled or not.</p>
<p>Hmmm, okay so I meant the two English composition requirements to transfer out to another UC, not the requirements for UCSC’s GEs. I know that I’ll have fulfilled C1 with my AP test score and I’m taking a C2 level class this fall. That’s where my question pops in… My AP test score covers one of the transfer English requirements, but will my C2 class cover the other transfer English requirement?</p>

<p>Most likely if you finish the C1 and C2 requirements, then you’ll have satisfied any english requirement at any of the UC’s. I’m just guessing and if you want a sure answer then you should ask an advisor once school starts. But writing classes are writing classes and if you finished 2 levels at ucsc, then it should work for the levels at any other school.</p>
<p>I’m from NorCal and am not particularly happy in Irvine, so I’m hoping to transfer for Fall 2013 to Davis or Cal.</p>

<p>Anyone know what the policy is on AP credits transferring? I have 86 units so far including my 40 AP credits and I’m afraid I’m going to have too many units at the end of this year to transfer.</p>
<p>You aren’t required to give the UCs all your AP test scores. With that being said, you can simply omit a couple of AP test scores and they won’t go toward your unit count. Just make sure you only omit enough to keep yourself below the 120 unit limit. The last thing you’d want is to fall below the 90 unit mark because you left out all your APs.</p>
<p>It’s my understanding that AP credits can only help you, not hurt you, with regard to the credit limitations. For example, I’m gonna have 113 quarter units by the end of spring quarter, but I have 56 AP credits that I am using to pass out of a lot of classes. UC’s will not calculate my credit count as 169, but rather as 113 because it would go over the unit cap of 120 if they were to include AP credits. However, if you need the credits to meet the 90 credit req, then they will count in your favor. So it would be in your best interest to include all of your AP credits on your app anyway, because it can only help you.</p>
<p>This is at least how I understood it, but I could be wrong. Any previous intercampus transfers have insight?</p>
<p>slapusillydawg, you’re right. Here’s what an admissions advisor from UC Berkeley told me as an intercampus transfer:
“The credit you received for the AP exams of 3 or higher, will be used to help you meet the 60 min. semester units, but will not be used to cause you to go over the 80 unit maximum.”</p>
<p>AP credits will not put you over any limit. I wouldn’t suggest selectively showing the AP scores you did well in because they will still see all of the scores anyways as it can show up in a number of reports/transcripts that your current UC has.</p>
<p>Also to whoever was wondering about the UCSC writing requirements: Your core classes should fulfill the C1 + C2 requirements. However, you still might not be exempt from having to take another writing class due to 2 possible reasons.</p>
<ol>
<li><p>I know UCSC has changed the requirements for their GE’s, so if they got rid of the upper-division writing requirement (listed as W), just ignore this. If you are trying to complete your GE’s before transferring (which I HIGHLY suggest doing) then you need to take your ‘W’ class. This is outside of the C1 + C2 req, but it is still a writing class you should plan for.</p></li>
<li><p>Many colleges/majors have their own requirements for writing that you can’t use your UCSC writing classes for. I know the department of Letters & Science at UC Davis requires students to take a writing course that not even your ‘W’ class at UCSC will take care of. You can petition or try to test out of the requirement, but just know that you might still need to take the class.</p></li>
</ol>
<p>If anyone has any specific questions about transferring out of UCSC or even a UC, then let me know. I’ve gone through the process and have helped several of my friends in the past. I might take some time to respond, though.</p>

<p>Hey everyone! Quick intro: I’m an Air Force vet, used to work the flightline, then got out, went to school, had a kid (i miss sleep), and now am getting ready to apply to UCSD and SDSU for Fall '13. (I’ll be sure to come back and make a proper intro once this energy drink wears off and I catch a nap.)</p>
<p>My question is: I didn’t add the course work in my CCAF transcript (really confusing the way it is) when I submitted my TAG application, but I did leave a comment stating the reason why I didn’t add it. Will it be likely that the reviewer will just toss out my application due to incompleteness?</p>
<p>Also, I was lucky enough to get into the UniversityLink program for UCSD, so hopefully I’ll still have a shot in case my TAG application does get looked over. Thanks!</p>
