BSherewego - Is this a mistake? The thread is for people posting where they are waitlisted. Your daughter can not go to the SPS revisit day if she is waitlisted. It is for admitted students only.

have you guys gotten any notifications or emails from your waitlisted schools? if so, what did they consist of?

I meant revisit day for schools she was given admission

No email or contact from WL schools yet. I’m assuming they will start contacting on or immediately after April 10

Almost always after April 10th. There are several key dates when the school can determine if it has capacity to draw from the waitlist:

AFTER April 10th (remember, the date is a postmark date for many schools - it will take a few additional days to sort and tally).

When the first payments start for those taking the “monthly” installment plan (normally May).

Mid to late summer when payments are due (for those paying in one installment or two).

No use waiting by the mailbox Just let the schools know you are interested in staying on the waitlist, then go do something to take your mind off the wait. Schools “over-admit” assuming that a percentage of students will turn them down. But because the climate has become so competitive, the yields are tighter. More students will have to turn them down than they planned before a school goes to waitlist and in that case, they may scan the list to fill the “hole” left by that student (for example: didn’t get either of the Tuba players or debaters they needed and they choose another from the waitlist).

still - some families have been admitted as far out as late summer, some with aid. So it’s not over until it’s over. Good luck.

^^agree-- but until then, which ever school has accepted you start to visualize yourself there-- get excited. Buy the window decal and put it on NOW (don’t worry, if the WL dream school comes through you can easily change the sticker). Get the sweatshirt (it can always go to Goodwill).

In short–even though the WL makes one feel as if his or her life is on hold-- don’t let it be…live in the present and enjoy your successes.

Waitlisted at: Choate, andover, Hotchkiss & SPS
In 8th Grade

My waitlist letter told me the earliest they can contact anyone is April 8th, but that kids must decide which school to attend by the 10th. I don’t understand how they could take anyone off the list by the 8th.

They could possibly know by then that yield is lower than expected. I think most (or many) people accept or decline sooner than April 10.

But I wouldn’t hold your breath on April 8 or 10. Although there are many stories on cc of applicants getting off of wait lists, it seems the timing is all over the place.

My daughter decided and confirmed her attendance at hotchkiss so she is withdrawing from SPS and Andover WL. Good luck to those who are on WL at SPS and Andover.

P.S. - for those who are on hotchkiss WL, they tell me number of WL students are well in excess of one hundred… Looks like it will be a slim chance to get off the hotchkiss WL
