2014 AP Statistics Thread

@mzr1998 yea that’s what I did.

@cindycray‌ Omg I got a high p value when I did 2 sample too! But then I realized it was a matched pairs and started all over…

That should be probably a 1 maybe?
Did u not know how to do the ques? or did u just run out of time?

@sahil9797 ehh I forgot but hey a 1 is good. also@mzr1998 @sahil9797 was it engine size or wheel base

I said Graph III (wheel base in inches) …

@XCBro4Life‌ Unfortunately, you would probably get a 1 or 2 for that question. But don’t worry, your score won’t be significantly affected by that single question. Keep your fingers crossed and hope for the best lol

Write a few sentences to compare the association between the variables in graph II with the association between the variables in graph III. what did you guys say @mzr1998 @sahil9797

The answer to 6d is graph II because the y-variable is the residuals from the first regression line with only length as a variable. The pattern from graph II shows that engine size is influencing the magnitude of the residual from the first regression line, making engine size a lurking variable that should be added as a second explanatory variable. A lot of people probably got it wrong.

also, for 4b did you guys chose method 1 or method 2

I said method 1 bcus people would be more obligated to lie over the phone

@hasaialak oh sweet. would I get 1 point if I just said engine size and kind of bs’d the justification?

Lol I’m so dumb…I picked Graph 3 because “random residuals imply that a linear model is more appropriate”.

Method 2

why method 2? @sahil9797 wouldn’t more people lie on the phone? plus more ppl would respond via email

@XCBro4Life‌ its method 2 cuz wealthier people are more likely to have internet access.

@mzr1998 that isn’t neccesarily true is it? why would wealthier people not have phone service?

In Method 1, only those people who have higher incomes are most likely to respond. (or those with strong opinions will repond)… data will be skewed heavily to the right. Also, not stated SRS.

In Method 2, a SRS is selected… less response bias.

oh ok.

It’s method 2. Method 1 will result in response bias because a response isn’t demanded.

@XCBro4Life‌ First of all, their is non response bias in method 1. Also its a convenience sample as only the first 600 people are considered. In method two, random selection is used and they “ensure that all responses” from the random sample of 100 people are obtained.
