Thanks so much, EmsDad. I really thought there was a much newer version of this list than the one I had posted earlier from six years ago and I didn’t look hard enough to find it. So, this is the version people should continue using and post updated information as found.

I really like this list! It provides a very clear picture of exactly what size the group would be. That’s really what I’m looking for - some added data to envision the experience. Like most people, we can’t visit all the schools so it’s helpful to group and compare programs by size. (Obviously, a small group that’s part of a huge urban university will have a different feel than a small group at a tiny college in a remote location but this is a starting point and the most elusive information.) Thanks for bumping it up here! If anyone can add in info for those schools commonly mentioned but not listed, that would be great! CMU, Emerson, Indiana, Syracuse, U of Arts and so on… I am less interested in ‘how many apply’ or ‘how many are auditioned" and "how many are admitted’. That all seems to be less reliable info confounded by multiple factors such as self-selection, cost, and immediate casting needs as well as chiefly focusing on ‘chances’ or competition. We all know that the chances are slim and the competition is insane. That’s not all that different from year to year or school to school. But for my family, choosing desirable targets is easier with this bit of info about size than without it. Thanks.

We didn’t worry over EXACTLY what the class sizes were. Just the ballpark, i.e., 12 or less, 12-20, 20-30, … and so on to factor into building d’s list of schools. The numbers really don’t vary much overall from 2102 to 2014.

Also on CMU at the parent/student orientation the head of admissions stated they auditioned around 2,000. The BFA Acting class has 8 women and 6 men.

CMU MT has 5 women and I believe, 7 males. Two of the ladies were accepted last year and their spots were held while they performed professionally, so basically they took 3 young ladies from the last wave of auditions.

Per audition in November: Indiana strives for a class of 12. I do not have actual numbers of last years’ freshman class m/f breakdown, but all of their classes are 10-12 and they said they will never have more than 48 in the BFA MT program (all four years), but they sometimes have a few less.

I can’t believe PPU wasn’t on there…we started slacking :)) It has changed anyway like pghmusician says students this year will audition for the BFA program and they plan to have a smaller class size.
