Oops! This isn’t red…what did I do wrong?

You left a space between the brackets and what they enclosed, MsMommy. The brackets should be tight up against what’s inside – not separated as in the instructional example.

This is a cool thread. Could we clarify–Is this strictly BFA straight theatre only? Or does it include MT too? For instance, is the entire Freshman acting class at Otterbein composed of 7 people? Or is this just straight theatre?

If it’s straight only, can we also clarify how much interaction straight and MT students have? For instance, can both take singing and dancing lessons? Do both have equal access to shows? And so on. I think this information could be very helpful to incoming students.

Sorry about the bracket error, I cut and pasted from another thread :)

The Otterbein numbers are Acting only. I think the total is usually 8, and often split 4 male/4 female. My son is taking dance daily, which is part of every freshman acting major’s schedule. He just began private voice lessons through the department, and that is at an additional cost for Acting majors who choose to add it, but not for MTs as it is part of their schedule. All MTs and Acting majors typically audition for all shows, musicals, straight plays and the dance concert. MT and Acting take almost all the same classes together the first year.

USC does not offer MT as a major, although they do perform musicals. They offer a BFA or the BA in Theater Studies which allows time to take voice and dance through other departments.

Interesting, dramamom0804, I hadn’t realized that UNCSA was four below its normal 28 this year. I guess they’ll group them into studios of 12 rather than 14. My D’s class is 28 with 17 men and 11 women.

Yes @ActingDad, it is smaller. They have 2 classes of 12. I don’t know if they plan to continue that or not. Forsman has an assistant now who is going to be helping him with the audition process he said. I forget his name because I am terrible at names. Quinn maybe?
Our kids really get so much more attention in these programs than most college students. It is a side of this major we sometimes forget. But a real benefit.
