2014 Revists

Originally posted by @SevenDad 3 years ago

For students and parents: please post any thoughts you've had from Spring 2014 revisits here. Thought it might be helpful to have a single clearinghouse for observations.

Some guiding questions to get you started:

Basic format/schedule of your revisit day

Did the revisit confirm your interest in the school or did it dissuade you from matriculating?

What specific things about the revisit pushed you in either direction?

Did you learn anything new/surprising about the school?

Something you wish you had learned which you didn't

How was the food?

How were the classes you sat in on?

Obviously, it's still pre-April 10, so you may want to be more circumspect about protecting your identity/identity of school...

Is anyone going to Hotchkiss revisit this weekend?

Since revisits are finally starting, I’ll bump this up.

We will revisit Cate on Friday 4/4 and then Milton 4/7. My daughter is very excited, yet worried at the same time about making a difficult choice between two very different schools.

@GMC2918 My daughter and I revisited Cate last week and loved it even more. We already wrote the check. She had a great merit scholarship offer to a wonderful BS school and decided Cate was where she truly felt at home. We were seeking a great fit, not an an acronym school. The outdoor component of the Cate experience is very unique and was a huge draw for my daughter. She has been a coastal girl her entire life and didn’t feel she would be happy in NE. Cate is so beautiful. I can’t help but think the atmosphere helps produce happier students, who in turn are very academically driven, productive, and truly supportive of each other. I would love to hear your thoughts after your revisits. Good luck!!!

@Msclvr721, that is so exciting! Thanks for your insight. We really love Cate as well, and can’t wait for the revisit. Did you have much interaction with prospective families? I’m just wondering/curious about future classmates!

@GMC2918 There were about 35 kids revisiting when we were there. I heard there were 45 or so scheduled for the 4th. We did meet some families. We stayed late for sports games and an art exhibition. My D liked the new students she met. Very diverse group. The current students seem like a close knit group and very happy. Milton is also a great school but very different! Can’t go wrong either way.

We went to Choate and Andover already. Very hard decision. Better food at Choate I think

We met families at both schools, all of them nice and friendly.

In regards to Choate, did you get an email saying who your tour guide was (or something like that)? @Cariar

@prepschoolwannab I did, but I’m not going until Monday. When are you going?

Monday. Apparently I was supposed to get an email but I didn’t get one. When did you get the email? @prepschoolhopes

I can’t wait for someone to answer all the questions! Will you, @exeterbunny?

I’m happy to!

Basic format/schedule of your revisit day

Students shadowed students, parents had a broader program

Did the revisit confirm your interest in the school or did it dissuade you from matriculating?

Confirmed it! I already knew id be attending but now I’m even more excited

What specific things about the revisit pushed you in either direction?

The students were a big part of what got me excited- they were all so nice

Did you learn anything new/surprising about the school?

The kids are all normal kids! I was worried they’d all be smarter than me. I also learned some fun traditions and superstitions

Something you wish you had learned which you didn’t

Nothing, I got all the info I needed and more

How was the food?

Excellent

How were the classes you sat in on?

Incredible! I loved every second of them

This is just a small questions regarding revisit days. What exactly is the attire? Formal like for interviews or just following the dress code? What did you do

I’d go for dress code. You’re being a student for a day.

So if the dress code allows jeans I would be okay just wearing jeans and nice shirt?

I guess so.

@newyorkerrr Definitely. I mean, that’s what pretty much everyone is going to be wearing. However, I’d go for the more conservative end of the dress code rather than the liberal end. But I wouldn’t go all formal for a casual dress school.

As stargirl said, go for dress code, whatever it is. Not all schools allow jeans. Some require button down shirts. You just need to confirm your school’s code.

We revisited Hkiss Saturday. Rain didn’t dampen the day. Warm friendly greetings. Lots of energy and enthusiasm. DD felt very welcomed and wanted and right at home. With the bucolic setting, on a hillside, between 2 lakes, with 820 acres all their own, farm to table dining with the school’s own farm. Beautiful facilities-will make living anywhere (as in colleges or her first apartment, not other boarding schools else anticlimactic.
