Why are you guys up so late…

Whereabouts do you live? Because by me it’s currently 3:09 haha

You don’t sleep?! So what, do you periodically make a whirring noise and shut down, then recharge the battery in the back of your neck to get going again?

its only 1:30 am here, and i posted this over an hour after harvard’s last post…

Another SCEA hopeful chiming in, stats aren’t super, but I would really love to go to yale.

YES! Fresh meat.

Welcome, Nike T :)

hello all. YALEEEEEEEEEEEE. *drool.
ditto with Nike T, stats arent crazy, but I WORSHIP AT ALTAR OF YALE.
lol, not really, im not a crazy, but you get the idea…

^ Why is that crazy? I do that…

Haha, I’m the same way. Grammatical mistakes just annoy the hell out of me.

I think that colleges are especially inclined to take into account grade deflation when it is accompanied by high test scores. Or at least I hope so. I got a really low grade in my IB philosophy class this year because my teacher just didn’t believe in giving high grades in a class like philosophy, but I got a 7/7 on the IB exam. Hopwfully that will be taken into account.

My schedule for this coming year is crazy. IB biology HL, IB math SL, IB English HL, IB French HL, and IB chemistry SL. And then either IB Spanish SL or this creative writing class. If all of that IB stuff is nonsense to you, just ignore it :)

I’m familiar with IB because they do it on Long Island (New York) for god knows what reason…but what do SL and HL stand for?

“I got a really low grade in my IB philosophy class this year”—how low we talkin’ here?
And I totally feel you, my English teacher was the same way. I was worried all year about my grade because I was teetering on the B+/A- edge all year and I really wanted that A- and then at the end of the year he gave me a B just because he feels that only once in a blue a student deserves an A (the man has been teaching for 30 years and has only ever given out one A…what?! Who does that!?)

wait, question? how do you do that quoting thing where the other person’s words are in a different colored box than the rest of your post? I’ve ALWAYS wondered that.

We use percentages here, and I got a 79, which counts as a B+ according to our scale. It’s really not that bad, but all of my other grades are like 10-15% higher so it stands out.

SL stands for Standard Level and HL stands for Higher Level. Students who are trying to get the IB diploma need three SL subjects and three HL ones. HL classes go into a lot more depth than SL ones do, and they are usually around twice as long.
This is the quoted text.
Remove the asterisks and there you go. :)

Oooh I always wondered how to quote like that too! Haha thank you for enlightening us.

IB sounds way more impressive and hardcore compared to AP. Then again I’m not really familiar with IB programs, but still!

Ugh itsbeenreal I had the same problem with my english teacher sophomore year, who I have for AP english next year >.< But he’s really, really sketchy, so my friends and I have all been joking that I should wear pushup bras all year lolol. And bring in lindt chocolate truffles for the class weekly. That should get me good grades hahaha
Oh and also, from way back, my fav.food network star was Debbie, but Melissa’s okay. I just get these vibes from Melissa (from my tv? lol) that she’s really tense and secretly really aggressive and stuff. But I like what she cooks and her little I’m-not-a-chef background. Yay I love cooking!

OMG YOU GUYS! The Yale Supplement is UP on their website (not the common app yet though)
If you take a look at the short takes they are different than last years! here’s the link
http://www.yale.edu/admit/freshmen/application/pdf/yale_supplement_paper.pdf
Do I get a prize? ;)

AHH!! melody wins!!

OMG OMG OMG!!! MELODY you’re the best! Thank you!! Haha I’m so excited right now :]
Lolol we should buy you ice cream!

I love the short takes! I was worried that I wouldn’t be able to express everything I wanted Yale to know about me but the questions are pretty darn accomodating.

sweet thanks I’ll look at that.

I kinda had a problem like you guys in ap english too. I got a B+ in the class, my only one. But I didn’t mind so much cause I know writing isn’t my strongest area

the last short take is going to take quite a lot of thinking, lol. and probably the compliment one too.

I’m so grateful for the compliment one!
But totally yes, the last one is going to be tricky. Are we just asking a question or are we elaborating on it too? Eeek there’s not much space.

I really like the new short takes! Yay! Now I can totally start focusing on the Yale application. Btw chair2, that is so funny what you did with your AP Physics B test and congrats on the 5! I’m taking that class next year (kind of scared-it’s the hardest class in my school, and our school has HARD classes…) any tips?

I’ve never done AP physics, but I’ve taken tons of physics classes, and the material in Physics C is death.

I’m so jealous that I didn’t win. I was determined to win. YOU STOLE MY VICTORY.

I like the short take about compliments. I think I’m going to use one I got from my English lit teacher, but I’m not 100% sure yet.

Physics B isn’t too hard, actually I don’t know about your school. But if you can understand concepts and grasp what they mean you should do fine, but at the end of the year, with the interference of light and stuff, it does get a little more abstract. I thought anyway. Good luck though
