2014 SCEA hopefuls?

I am a bit of a goofball, and I should be rather professional here but I cannot help it.

PORTUGUESENINJA!! WE HAD AN AGREEMENT THAT YOU WILL BE SCEA!!!

Ok. That was loud.

HEY BULLDOOOOOOOOOOGGGGGGGG!!!

You guys, if you don’t know bulldog, she’s one of the awesome folks from the class of 2013 version of this thread we have here.

ARE YOU IN YALE YET!!! AAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHH!!!

I keep changing my mind about SCEA or RD but am still a Yaliewalie.

And hey Nick! WHAT UP, N000000B?! waves

Greetings from a '13er. If you guys have any questions for me regarding applications or things about Yale, I’m happy to answer them.

Hi Miles! Congratulations on Yalieness. How are you enjoying it so far?? Any tips or advice for us? What do you think it was about your profile that got you accepted?

My dear British Lady. I am taking time off library hours to hang around on CC. This is what started my addiction last year. I remember when I passed out! Those days…

I miss all the peeps from last year. Portuguese you should do SCEA. that-was-a-command
Classes started a while ago. I am getting used to everything. There is no one day when I do not walk by the Beinecke Library. It is what got me on the Yale website when I was really young in high school. Memories…

I cannot promise that I will be here all the time. Work is a lot, and fun is even more.
But I will try to pass by from time to time. I am sure my contribution to one thread could help. lloll

Coooool, we got real live Yalies on here

Tell us youngstuhs what it’s really like?
looks around eagerly

I just personally loathe the fact that all of my friends at Yale haven’t put up a SINGLE picture of their dorm or anything in that category. I wannna seeee their dorms!!

YES BULLDOG WE NEED TO SEE YOUR DOOOORRRM!!!

And I’m coming to visit Yale, what do I NEED to see?

The folks last year were pretty neat. But these guys are, dare I say it, even neater. But Hookem wouldn’t go amiss! goes in search of Ginger Yale post

Hookem, and the guy who wrote articles everyday during the last week. I forgot his name… OOMG!!!

My dorm is not the best… Old Campus? Guysss? If you visit you might not be allowed to view the dorms!!

Plus, when you are visiting I suggest you take a walk yourself. THen after that take a tour. I did not do that last year, but it might make you love the campus.

Tomorrow I have a date guys!! Wish me the best, omg!

A DATE WITH A YALIEEEE!!! ASDFKLASDJFKSDHFKSDH

You are too awesome, girl. Can we be facebook friends? I really want to be friends with someone in the Yale network

is a dweeb

MAL77!! I forgot his name too until I looked up “ginger yale” last night hahaha.

Today I’m going to study my socks off to get my math score up.

Anyone doing a music supplement? Two questions: (1) do you just do the commonapp or do you submit it directly to Yale too? and (2) what do they mean by “extraordinary talent” ? Like extraordinary as in better than most people or extraordinary as in you could be doing sold out concerts at carnegie hall? HELP!!!

Amonlingua: read Yale’s website, where they have their own supplement (meaning, you shouldn’t use the common app arts supplement). follow the directions there and it involves uploading your music files into a yale server (which isn’t up yet).

for music, i believe extraordinary is conservatory-level, not necessarily sold out shows in carnegie hall, but definitely better than most people. i’ve been to yale info meetings with admissions officers and one way they rate you is in relation to the current undergraduates/graduate students there.

^ I also am wondering about the music supplement.

So we are definitely not using the Common App music/arts supplement? But on the Yale website it says "All applicants intending to submit supplementary materials must also check the appropriate box on the Yale Supplement to the Common Application, Section VI, titled “Supplementary Materials (Optional).” And what about other schools like Princeton? I know they have a separate form if you want to submit a music supp so does that mean we don’t use the Common App supplemental stuff anymore?

And last question: conservatory level meaning you could probably get into some music school or does it have to be top notch like Juilliard?

Thanks :)

thanks chair2!..and I second tristan101’s question: consevatory or Juillard conservatory?

i’d say (just in my opinion) definitely music/art-school level, and of course, Juilliard-level even better. Juilliard’s acceptance rate is in line with that of Yale’s, maybe even lower, so i don’t think that yale would be expecting that kind of talent, but they definitely want some pretty good musicians to be submitting supplements.

I don’t think I’ve looked at this thread since school started, but it hasn’t grown much since then, accept in number of people posting!

Two questions: 1) Has anyone received any information from Yale in the mail yet?
2) What on earth are you writing your second essay on?

awhh we got new members! YAYYYY! and current yalies too!! exciting.

i kinda forgot to check this thread. oops.

i don’t think you have to be julliard level but you should stand out enough to make them take you seriously. so conservatory level? i guess?

NO. I HAVEN’T. but i’m DYING to get some yale mail. hahahah. are we EVER gonna get a viewbook or something? i feel like i have gotten something from every college EXCEPT yale.

second essay? no idea. i have some essays i’m editing but i have no idea which one i’m using. which ever one turns out the best  hahah.

Haha okay me too. I have so much stuff from colleges every day, but nothing from Yale!!

My essay-writing is kind of sucking. Right now I’m working on an essay about my neighbors who have been my best friends since I was born, but I’m not sure that it will even work out to be a good topic! And that’s just for my main essay. Second essay is not even in the works… yay? haha

I got a letter last week inviting me to an info session in my area!

…'cept my area is pretty remote, and I think that about five people will be there. Including me…should be interesting! “Hiiiiiiiii! Thanks for coming to visit us the middle of nowhere! We’ve shown our gratitude by furnishing your info session with FIVE WHOLE people!!”

…Hah.

And my second essay is gross. Just gross. I need to really work on it…yiiiiiikes.

During my visit to Yale, we weren’t allowed to see the dorms. I felt so at home on campus, and my SCEA application is done, and my rec letters are in, and now I have to wait. Yale was my very first application, and now I feel like every application I complete is way better. I wish I would have waited and revisited it after I completed all my applications, and had more time to be introspective but oh well. :-)

This thread dropped to the second page, y’all.

Not cool.

38 days til SCEA deadline.
