The average GPA for CNS transfers in 3.61, but that’s a really impressive letter of rec so you have a good shot! I called in and they said that the Office of Admissions is literally reviewing applications right now.

To everyone else that has to wait until the semester ends, I called in and they said that the offices close on December 20th at 5 PM, so you’ll need to get your transcript in before then or you’ll have to wait until offices reopen after the Christmas.

Yeah, my GPA is really low. However, I know someone who transferred into Cockrell with a 3.11, so that gives me some hope. What I like about UT’s admissions procedure is that they really review everyone’s application holistically.

Do you know if they review all transfer applicants holistically? Or do they not even review the applicant (essays, resume, etc) if the GPA is below a 3.0?

Hey guys! I’m a freshman at UT, but my best friend want to transfer here. He went to a private school for his freshman year and got around a 3.3 GPA. He has 31 hours I think so he’s good on the hours. But what are his chances of getting in to COLA for English? He has great work experience and good letters of recommendation from professors. Let me know please His essays were also great and clearly from the heart.

I was told that if GPA is below 3.0, they look at the number of credit hours attempted and course taken, and then decide whether or not to look at the other components (essays, rec letters, etc).

My girlfriend works for the RTF department in the College of Communication (Now Moody College of Communication), and her boss (a professor) has served on the admissions committee in the past. He said that the College of Communication puts more emphasis on essays than the students’ actual GPA. They also look at your ACT/SAT scores if you sent them in, although, they only look at them just to sort of see your performance on them. They really have no impact on the decision.

Unfortunately I am an unusual case and I really don’t know what will happen. Actually, I am 99% sure my application will be denied. I already have a BS from a well-known university in California, but really screwed up academically my first 4 years there. My last year I received provost honors for nearly getting a 4.0 for that year, but because I screwed up so badly for so many units/so many years, my overall GPA is still only a 2.9.

I do however, have a very unique resume and great essays. I very much regret slacking as much as I did in the past, but feel like I have learned a ton from my mistakes. Oh well.

I also called and the sir told me that approximately at the end of this week, some decisions will be rolled out. And by the end of November, all the applicants who had finished 30+ hours will have answers.
So basically nothing new.

He refused to give any additional informations regarding to my application, so he didn’t even ask for my EID. But he did say that in this year, they are having relatively large pool of applicants; thus, some of the competitive majors now take even more time for them to make a decision on admission.

And that certainly is the worst news for us who are in the lower middle.

What majors are considered competitive majors? That worries me since I’m sitting at a 3.72 and Computer Science is becoming a more common major.

Wow! This is so much information! Well, since the office is already closed, I will call in tomorrow and ask about the “status on my application” and see what the lady/man tells me. I hope I get to find out because this decision depends on whether or not I should sign up for classes at my current university for the Spring. I’m hoping they already have a decision and I get to know. Fingers crossed.

sekirm, I did try to ask about my major, psychology in COLA, which he did not give any specific information about.
And I don’t think they ought to give any additional inforamtion about it.
So, I guess, if your major is considered as competitive before, then yes…It might be one of those.

Hey guys I called the admission office today to see what my next step is and she seemed a little surprised that I had received my acceptance so early. I don’t know if that helps any but I figured I would relay that to everyone.

Oh and a special thanks to DeeGeerbear (I’m sure I butchered the hell out of that). You didn’t have to coach any of us through this, but you did and I’m definitely grateful you were there to help us all out and ease our worries!

Honestly, I was pretty surprised too because when I had called, the lady told me that they will roll out decisions starting November 15th. But nonetheless, congratulations once again! Hope to see you on 6th street as well! =P

Aww I’m honored Djdizzled. I enjoy helping out prospective students so it was no problem. This is a tough process and an honor to be accepted, so I don’t mind at all being there for you guys to help out anyway I possibly can. Hook’em!! \m/
