Chir490, I have the same question. I hear that the areas north and west of campus are best. Does anyone know what would be a reasonable price for a 1 bedroom apartment near campus?

@llama123 looking for female roomies too! i’ll be a second-semester freshman, but a junior by credits

The most reasonable price for just a one bedroom would be starting at $700. Avoid Riverside area at ALL COSTS. It’s very dangerous.

Not all of riverside is dangerous. There are very affordable and relatively safe places over there. Just do your research. Some are a lot better than others.

I would suggest looking over at the Far West area of town. The UT bus lines go over there and you can find much more affordable places than down by campus. It is also safer than riverside as well.

I’ve lived in Austin for 9 years now, there are some real gems out there but you have to really research or you can get screwed.

Riverside is actually being renovated so it’s not as bad as it used to be. I lived there for 2 years as have many of my friends. if you’re smart you’ll be fine. Just seriously avoid The Zone and crossing place and riverside.

*at crossing place

Well my friend lives on riverside and she feels horribly unsafe… I wouldn’t recommend it at all if there are other options. And I’m living in Far West so I highly do suggest that area.

Lots of people new to Austin start out around Riverside, and yes, there are sketchy areas, so be safe and smart. Just keep in mind that your rental history here is important – don’t sign a year lease if you are uncomfortable with the neighborhood, and keep your ears open for rentals. You’ll get more info from coworkers, students, friends, but you have to have a place to live while you research. Also, there are lots of housing coops

If you live in a coop, you will probably gain some cooking skills along with your degree.

I just got denied around 9 this morning. Bummer. Those of you still waiting may want to check your status. I had a 3.4 gpa, 2 good essays (although a bit rushed, they could have been better), an excellent resume, an excellent LOR from a professor in my major, and no volunteer work. Oh well, I’m on my way to boosting my GPA and will be better prepared for Fall. Good luck to those of you still waiting!

Wombar, I am so sorry. But good luck in the fall, I’m sure you will get in!

Everyone I have a question, something kinda weird has happened, after my major change went through, my status said complete, but with no decision posted, then this morning my application went back under review… Any one else have this happen? I’m kinda nervous.

Sorry for you wombar, don’t loose hope, there’s always fall to apply in.
If you don’t mind me asking, what was your major?

The same thing happened to me utnurse2b.

I haven’t been accepted or denied yet. I have the same-ish GPA as you wombar, I am a 3.44 and I am applying to be a PSYCH major. I had an amazing SOP but my other two essays were okay. I worked a lot with the transfer counselor in my area so I felt really good. I have community service and recommendations… I am also not a very traditional student because I am a single parent.

I called and asked about my application ad the counselor I spoke I with said late November to early December would be a realistic time frame for me to know. I already got accepted into Baylor too…

I feel like December won’t leave me enough time to move and find an apartment and a job because I will have to work too.

:(

Wow December?

@Crew808

Oops, my major is Anthropology; second choice: UGS

Good luck to you and everyone!

She said early December would be the latest. I think it’s more likely that it will happen in the next two weeks. She said they have a deadline because after December they have to start reviewing fall admissions.

I needed to know more like yesterday. I have so much to do if I get accepted.

@DeeGeeErBear OR anyone who can answer this

For transferable credit GPA, do they calculate according the major you’re applying to?

I took an Econ course summer of 2012 and got a “C” in it, BUT that was then when I wanted to pursue an economics degree.

Do they put that grade into play even though I’m not pursing economics anymore?

I haven’t been accepted/denied yet… December is like far away

I’m an anthro major with a 3.4 transferable gpa as well and I haven’t heard anything. I’m not in the least bit confident now lol. I had 2 really good essays but no LORs. And I’m not sure if my resume would be considered good or not because there isn’t a lot on it as I have been with the same company for 7 years and because I’ve had to work full time I haven’t had time to do any community service or anything.

:-/ at least I know I got accepted to Texas State so worst case scenario I’ll be going there.
