2015 Arts Transfer decision release time& open house invitation from UCLA art dept.

Hi, If you are applying to 2015 fall as a transfer to Design media art in school of art and architecture of UCLA,
Firstly, I have called DMA dept office, they said the decision will be out on April 17th by 5 pm. She is quite sure when she answered. I also called art admission office, he said, it will be released between 15th to the last day of April which does not mean anything. I then called the UCLA undergrad admission office, she answered that it wont be released these two weeks because they do not have them yet. Well…according to 2013, 2014 release date around April 18th, the saying of April 17th by 5 pm is more likely true.

Secondly,
Did you receive an invitation of open house event by email? Let’s gather all the art transfer applicants who got this invitation for having a better picture how much this email they have sent, and what they really mean by that email. (if the number of the invited people exceeds the former average accepted students, then this invitation does not mean anything, and will not be an informal acceptance or a likely letter, if small group of people received it, then it is more likely that we have been selected from the applicants pool)
It says all admitted students will be invited to this welcome event in their own dept.
As far as I know, people who did not get this email does not mean they are not admitted, but people who got are admitted. Has anyone heard that people got the invitation, but got rejected?

Thank you!! and Good luck every one!! and yes please inform below if you have gotten the invitation or not.

lmao I hope this inconsistency within those offices regarding the decision date doesn’t translate into how our applications were reviewed haha :-SS

I know what the email means because I contacted the Arts dept and they emailed me back. I wrote it up somewhere on CC. Because there is a portfolio involved, the various art depts make the determination. The email said the dept recommended you the recipient to be admitted, but it is not a guarantee because the UC requirements still need to be approved by admissions.

So – assuming you got the email and you have all your units and pre-reqs and other requirements done, I assume you’re in. As to whether they send the email to everyone (including people on a waitlist, because they have no real idea how many people will actually enroll), I have no idea. There obviously will be some spaces and there may be some people who will still be admitted that didn’t get the email. Not only people who don’t enroll but ppl who have not met UC minimum admissions. I hate to be the bearer of bad news and I assume there are still spaces, but I think that email had a big impact.

Lindyk8: what is pre-reqs? major preparation requirement? or GE requirement?

Thank you so much for your answer above !!

81Mamba: haha When I finished all these three calls, honestly, i thought it was funny they all had different answers
I think the admission office got too many calls, they are annoyed.
But the dma office, less people call her before they call admission so she might tell the right answer. Also I found her answer of April 17th is right because there is a theory that UCLA decision comes out one week earlier than UCBerkeley, UCB releases on 24th, and UCLA will be on 17th.

I just mean whatever it is you need to get in to a UC as a transfer, whatever it may be: minimum GPA, 60 UC transferable units, IGETC (if needed), that general stuff. Sorry if I said it confusingly.

Lindyk8: at the final check by admission office, is it a eligibility check? or the best ones picking ?
do you know if they are picking the best ones out of recommended ones? or just checking if they meet the min requirement? like 2course in english, 1 math , 4 ge, and minimum gpa:3.2?(which is what most of the people can get)

lindyk8: so does it mean as long as we do not have any bad academic history, or dishonest issue, we will be fine?

I’m not part of the process so I am only guessing based on the email sent out and response. But except for college if Letters and Science, where the depts have no input at all - all decisions come from admissions office, most (if not all?) of the other colleges are involved. And it makes sense, especially if they’re looking at portfolios. There is no way someone in admissions can make a decision on art or music or film, etc. so, it would stand to reason the depts pick the applicant and then admissions just verifies that they’re qualified in the most minimal sense.

Now, does the arts dept send them in a certain order, like these first, then these, etc? Maybe. I don’t know. They may have room for 50, so they send 50, all shoe-ins assuming there are no issues. Then maybe they add more later - the Waitlists do come out after admit notices sent.

Sorry I can’t be more help.

@agzaroarz I’m only guessing, but I would say yes.

@lindyk8 , I think so and I hope so  I am excited that we can study together this fall

You won’t be studying with me. I’m an adult. I simply emailed the office. >:)

@lindyk8 still thank you

TOMORROW IS THE DAY! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! !

@agzaroarz I hope you’re right about it being tomorrow lolol In the UCLA Fall 2015 Transfer Page there’s so much doubt going around haha

@81Mamba I think it is likely right because:

  1. decision is usually released on friday
  2. last year it is released on April 18th, Friday
  3. one week before ucb’s decision, last ucb released on 25th friday, ucla released on April 18th, friday
and this year, ucb releases on 24th fri, so let’s count, one week before for ucla’s, it is April 17th, it is tomorrow
Plus dma office told me that : ) I will call and ask again later

Just got some more info from the other thread UCLA thread haha. Check it out! Some more evidence pointing toward it being tomorrow, however UCLA still hasn’t updated their notification timeline :frowning:

@81Mamba I also heard UCLA will notify the release date right before like one or two days before
but it still saying “late April” some place says"mid to late April" :frowning:

Last year, as I recall, UCLA announced its decision day a few days earlier. But someone said they actually announced it just that morning (April 18). So I do think they’ll say something in advance and maybe it will be tomorrow morning.

I guess last year the rumor mill was April 18 because we all seemed to have that date in our heads beforehand and maybe the “official” announcement was morning of.
