2015 ED1 Countdown!

Seems like it's about time. So, who applied for ED? It would be nice to introduce ourselves with gender/nationality, location, academic interests, the names of other schools that are at the top of our list, and anything else interesting.

As for me,
Korean, female, coming from SoCal not far from Mudd, chemistry & cognitive science, Caltech (except for its scanty opportunities in HSA) & Columbia. Wrote about my childhood hydrophobia in the second HMC supplement.

Anyone else?

hey im elliot, i applied early decision to harvey mudd too! I’m white and from massachusetts. If i dont get into mudd then i am also considering stanford and johns hopkins. im looking to major in physics and i wrote about my sisters impact on me for the common application. I’m getting way too nervous for next week!

I am female, super white American, located in Washington, interested in pretty much anything in math/science/engineering, applying to Stanford, CMU, and a ton of other colleges if I don’t get in, and I’m ridiculously nervous for next week!

Hey all! I’m male, white, and currently located in Princeton, NJ. After Mudd, I guess my top choices would be Carnegie Mellon, MIT, or maybe Stanford or Caltech? I’m into CMU early through a summer program, so no safeties to worry about if I don’t get into Mudd :)

I’m looking at engineering or physics because the first means I get to tinker with stuff, and the second means I get to tinker with the universe :stuck_out_tongue: I’m really nervous too! Mudd’s a dream school for me so not getting in would kinda suck a bit.

Oh, also, I’m a nerd. Just putting that out there, if applying ED to HMC didn’t make that clear enough.

finally, I was waiting to see when a post like this would come up.
good luck guys

So Maruhan are you happy there?! Is it as much work as everyone says?

Do you have any magnificent pearls o’ wisdom for the ones who are now in the same boat you were this time last year?

In fact, I’m happier here than I thought I would be. School is rather fun.
Work load is manageable but you will spend a lot of time on it.

Four more days of waiting at the most. I am getting way too nervous with so many tests/projects pending for next week… Good luck to all!

Actually, it’s AT LEAST four more days of waiting. December 15 is just their mailing deadline. =(

Hey everyone! I’ve been lurking on these forums for a while now, but the wait for HMC’s ED is absolutely killing me, so I decided to make a quick post. I’m male, half-Japanese half-White, and I live about 35 miles south of HMC. My intended major there is general engineering, and I’m also applying to Rose-Hulman, UC Berkeley, Caltech, and Carnegie Mellon, among many others.

Harvey Mudd is by far my first choice college, but unfortunately, I consider it to be a bit of a reach. In 8th grade, I started having some family / finance problems, so I’ve been working throughout high school as a background actor. While it was a ton of fun, and paid surprisingly well, it really impacted my education. To allow for a work schedule, I’m enrolled in an independent high school that has zero AP classes, and only biology for sciences. I’m studying calc BC on my own and I finished introductory community college courses for Physics/Chem, but I couldn’t take any particularly challenging classes (a trait that HMC looks for).

Nevertheless, I’ll find out in a couple of days. Good luck to all of you who are applying, it really is a wonderful school. Also, if you’re interested, here are some of my stats:

SAT: One-Sitting 2290 (CR: 750, M: 770, W: 770)
SAT II: Math 2: 800, Physics: 770
GPA: 4.0UW/4.0W
Rank: 1/118 (No weighted classes, so I share first with several people)
ECs: Not much, because my free time was mostly working (1000+ hours, too lazy to count). I’ve got like 60 hours of community service, secretary in NHS. Sadly, my school has only 3 clubs, none of which are science/math, and my work schedule conflicted with those that exist.

^ Interesting story. I hope you get in :)

I just got my deferral from Caltech today, ouch! x]
I can’t wait to hear from HMC now…

My friend told me that they probably sent out the letters friday or if not they will send them monday. I’m a hispanic male, live in Southern California, want to study either engineering or chemsitry, and if i get in will be running for the CMS cross country team.

If it was sent Friday…it will get here tomorrow! And I’m sorry to hear about your deferral warrior. Let’s hope for a nice “accepted” in a few days.

Oh, and a quick random question about HMC. Does anyone know if they have a Rubik’s Cube club, like at Caltech/Stanford/MIT? It’s a pointless hobby, but I would definitely join if there is one.

No HMC doesn’t have a Rubik’s Cube club

But you could always start one!

If we both get accepted, I’d be happy to co-found it with you. ;)

From the admissions blog:

Be forewarned, this kind of conversation takes time. Which is why the response date of December 15 is a mailing deadline, not a receive-by. If all goes well, we’ll mail our decision letters on the 13th or 14th, and they should be in your hands not long afterwards. In the meantime, wish us luck and plenty of Pirate’s Booty for our committee discussions on Friday.

So I’m really hoping they can send them tomorrow!

Also, I would love to join a Rubik’s Cube club, as long as they’re willing to teach me how to solve one. =D

On the facebook page for harvey mudd 2015 a person joined and has their school listed as harvey mudd so maybe they sent out letters already? Because I don’t see why someone would join before receiving there letter.

^ Hmm I think the creator of that group is a HMC alumnus…

Oh I meant the person in the group named John Choi because Guy Gerbick created the group and the Aman guy is just a spammer but the 3rd person just joined this weekend I believe

Maybe it’s just an overly eager prospective student?
