2016 - 2017 USC Transfer

Guys I really want to go to USC it is my dream school. I know I mentioned this before, but I am really worried about my having two W’s affecting my admissions decision. I applied to Marshall Pre-Acconting and have a 3.73-3.75 transferable USC GPA. I have A’s in all the pre reqs (business calc, 2nd semester English, and financial and managerial accounting). I am missing two GE courses. I also am a tutor at my school and work at my family business. Is it unheard of to get into Marshall with these stats? I got two really good letters of rec and felt my essays were strong. I explained my W’s in the additional comments section of the common app and said that for one of them (philosophy, a summer class) I was misinformed about needing the class and had to drop to help out my family business and the other one I dropped pre-calc because I couldn’t understand it and although passing, I decided needed to know the material to do well in calc so I decided to try again to get a good grasp on it.

@chaseguy750 I think you will be fine since you’ve explained to it them already. Good luck and fight on!

@mochibbycake Thanks hopefully they see my explanations as valid.

Hey guys I’m applying to USC for Fall 2016 and I was wondering if any of you will take the time to help me out
I’m applying as an English major and my GPA is 3.7-3.8.
I have mostly A’s and a few B’s. I also wrote very strong essays and have two recommendation letters from my history and english teacher.
I didn’t do so well in high school but I don’t think that should be a problem.
Do I have a chance? Thanks for helping

Depends how many units you have. If you have more than 30 college units, they will go heavy based on your sat/high school record, if more, they will just consider your college transfer gpa.

  • source, usc website, my usc admission counselor, good luck to everybody.

I think they like to see an upward trend. At least that is what I hear people say.

Hi everyone,
I just want your opinions on my chances of getting into USC.
I am first year student at a private university with sophomore standing. So firstly, I am applying to the Fall 2016 transfer. But right now, I am putting Political Science as my first major and BFA acting as my second major. But I don’t know if I should put undecided, especially since I can’t audition for the BFA program anyway.
I have 15 units and I am working on 16, so 31 in total.
I got a 3.8 my first semester (and hopefully a 4.0 this semester).
I got about a 4.1 in high school, but unweighted it may have been around 3.8 (second semester senior year was extremely tough).
In high school, I was theatre president, dance assistant teacher & recital performer, choir. I was in 5 clubs and I volunteered at a hospital.
In college, I am part of the debate team (I have a scholarship), part of a religious club, I volunteer with theater, and hopefully getting a job or joining the choir here.
Sooooo, I think those statistics are good. But honestly, what worries me is the competitiveness of the various schools. I’m going back and forth between putting undecided and political science (since I cannot audition for the BFA program). But it’s hard because in my common app, I talk about how driven I am about things, but I don’t want being undecided to look like I am not driven, you know? Because I am genuinely interested in lots of academic fields, which is why I kind of want to put undecided. I am not sure.
Also, can my high school counselor email my transcripts to the school?
And does my college email my transcripts to USC? Where do my schools email my transcripts?
THANKS. PLEASE RESPOND SOON. DEADLINE IS COMING.

@PhFourteen Have your high school and college send mail copies to the address listed on the USC website. If you attended high school in the U.S, you should be able to use parchment to send transcripts otherwise you will have to contact your high school. College transcripts should be sent by mail through the system your college uses to process transcripts. Transcripts don’t need to be sent by the deadline but the application and writing supplement should be submitted by that date. Contact your admission counselor for more specific information using this link http://www.usc.edu/admission/undergraduate/findyourcounselor.html.

This is the address but I think you should check the website to confirm:

Office of Undergraduate Admission
University of Southern California
University Park Campus
Los Angeles, CA 90089

@PhFourteen As far as chances go, I think you are a solid applicant (Exact same GPA and credits completed as me). I myself have applied as undecided as I plan to transfer to Marshall once I meet the requirements and I do not think that deciding to apply as undecided will make you looked at unfavorably in the admissions process.

Did you get in or are you applying right now? Is it possible I can contact you or something so we can talk more about this?

@JDYA112
If you were already accepted, did you get in as undecided? I want to go to Marshall but I’m thinking of applying as “open” because it is so selective.

Do they want transcripts after Spring semester is completed or is it okay to send them now?

send them now.

What about grades from the winter semester? Should I wait until the end of spring to send them?

Does usc admission office assign us admission counselor?
Or can we just look it up in usc website and find who our admission counselor is by the state where we currently attend the school?

@victory1 You look it up on the USC website and it is state/region specific.

@PhFourteen I am applying right now so I just going based off stats and past forums on here. If you still want to contact me, you can send me a PM.

@JC10202010 Haven’t been accepted yet but applying undecided is definitely easier. The average Marshall GPA is 3.6 so if you have that, it shouldn’t be too hard to get in.

@JDYA112 I don’t where you got the info from. USC doesn’t provide average GPA for each major, they provide an average GPA for all majors as a whole. that was 3.67. With that being said, Marshall GPA could be higher than 3.67 or lower.

Does anyone know when admissions come out?
