@topchoiceschool "A student applying directly to the Marshall School of Business as a transfer from another institution will be more competitive with a 3.6 GPA. " Not an average GPA but still gives an idea of what GPA is good to have. Source: http://classic.marshall.usc.edu/leventhal/curriculum/lsoaundergraduate/admissions.htm
Annenberg student here, super anxious about the transfer process, anyone know how many % or the general stats for annenberg? And do I have a shot at it (I heard it’s really tough like UCLA)
Major: Communication
GPA: 4.0
Units completed (Fall 2015): 70 quarter units
1 strong recommendation, 1 okay recommendation
EC: High school pretty good, college is slightly below average
International students and essays are pretty good (I believe)
And guys, I looked up at 2015’s thread and they all talking about SGR which I had no idea… is that a Spring Grade Update thing? And if u don’t get one does it mean your chance to get in is pretty low? Thanks!
The essay I submitted is about 650 words. Is that bad.
Does any one know how you’re supposed to report classes you are taking in the short winter semester. The number of classes I am taking are more than ten

why everyone so interested in transferring to USC?
Does reputation of current school name matter? or do they only focus on GPA?
I am transferring from 4 year institution with around 40-50 US news ranking, but my GPA is around 3.5
am I getting a chance?
@Sumner Well, you definitely have the GPA. I think it would really boil down to what classes you’ve taken and a few other things (like if your ECs relate to your major). I don’t think USC focuses too too much on EC’s because mine weren’t really the best and it would be a bit of a stretch to relate them to my major.
As for the SGR, not getting one isn’t a good or bad sign. If anything, it just means they want to see more from you to see if you maintain the same academic performance. If someone is a sophomore transfer and has very few units, then of course they would get an SGR. And I’m not sure what you’d make of this, but I had a 4.0, got an SGR, got 1 B in a math course and was rejected I did try again the next year and was accepted (this time even withdrawing from a class while I was preparing my application), so there’s always just a lot of factors that go into it. I wouldn’t worry too much though; you do have the GPA
@zettasyntax Curious what school you applied to at USC and how many credits did you have after the SGR?
Can anyone please give a last minute impression on my essays? I am going to send it in at 10 tonight.
@DanHuynhCA I am available
@victory1 Sending right now
Hey I have a concern about transcripits that’s freaking me out. I have sent my high school transcripts. But I completely forgot my college
Does anyone know if usc cares about the school reputation? my GPA is pretty low (around 3.5) from 40-50 us news ranking 4 year institution.
@DanHuynhCA I think you would be fine as long as you submitted your application on time
Does anyone on this forum know how to send in college transcripts? Can I faux them at my current school? I am preying I can. I fucked up on this part. It’s an absolute pain
If you go to a CSU or any other 4-year college, try using www.studentclearinghouse.org. There’s a tab that says, “order transcript” and it sends your transcript from your school to USC. However, I would ask your college if they use this website. This one had a lot of colleges listed on it, but you want to be sure. Also you can do rush delivery and it will send it in 2 days after being processed. Good luck!
@JDYA112 After the SGR, I had 65 units. I’m pretty sure they weren’t all USC transferable, so had I been accepted, I probably would have still been considered a sophomore until I racked up a few more units. I was taking 21 units the spring before transfer and that was a slight increase to my previous semesters, so that probably raised some flags. I applied as Undecided/Dornsife as my first choice and Viterbi for Computer Science/Games, but I figured the latter was a really long shot. I thought I would get in for undecided though.
@victory1 Honestly, I don’t think USC cares about reputation too much since a number of transfers do come from various community colleges. I went to Los Angeles Trade Tech and East Los Angeles College (among a few others) and they aren’t really known for churning out succesful transfers like some of the more well known California CC’s such as Santa Monica College. In fact, I remember at orientation, a lady that was speaking said it takes the typical student 6-10 years to earn their associate’s degree from East LA College I thought she was lying, but I had encountered several students that had been there quite a bit past two years.
Does USC rely solely on GPA? What else do they factor in?
Hi guys,
Do you guys know if we have to complete the prompt on the actual common app?
“Please provide a statement that addresses your reasons for transferring and the objectives you hope to achieve. You can type directly into the box, or you can paste text from another source. (250-650 words)”
I know the other two prompts on the USC supplemental app are required but is this one also required?
