Hello:) I’m applying as a sophomore with a 4.0 and currently have 18 units completed. I am taking 16 units next semester. If I receive a SGR, do you think I would be denied for having a 3.81 GPA instead of a 4.0? Thanks! And good luck everyone!
@Lissa976 That’s really good. Is that your cumulative or the gpa you got for the semester? Either way, I don’t think that would hurt you because it’s still very high. It also depends on how hard the classes you’re taking are. But overall, I think you have a very good chance of getting in (:
Do they weigh your GPA primarily in the admission process? Or do they also factor in extracurricular activities? I’ve heard mixed things. Also how hard is it to get into The Sol Price School for Public Policy?
I’m also applying to USC, just submitted my application last night. I’m applying as a computer science major of Sophomore standing. I have a cumulative GPA of 3.92 from WIT and a 4.68 from High School. Best of luck to everyone!
What is the difference between “admission decision, or a request for spring 2016 grades”. Can someone explain each one?
@tommycolumbus I heard for transfer students, they weigh your GPA the most. If you look at their transfer thread, USC also states that they weigh your academic performance the most. BUT, with that being said, there are so many other factors. Everyone has their own unique accomplishments, but i’m sure your GPA must fall near their average acceptance rate.
So with ECs such as
-Secretary to the Young Americans for Freedom
-Member of a Charity Club
-Eagle Scout
-Candidate in the Marine Corps Platoon Leaders class (similar to ROTC)
-Rock Climbing Instructor
Combine that with a 3.64 first semester of college. What are my chances?
@tommycolumbus how many credits have you taken?
14 complete 17 in progress @victory1
I forgot to add on EC activity on the activities section. I am part of the scholars program at my community college. We do volunteering, organize events, and take honors classes. Is there anything I can do to tell USC? How much will this affect my chances?
@JC10202010 if your GPA is high, it would be fine. It seems they focus more on high GPA than EC activities.
So does anyone think that getting a D in the winter session might make them rescind my acceptance for the fall? I’m a freshman so will only have completed about 30 units. I got all A’s (4.0 GPA) for my first semester of college. So I don’t have a long track record.
Yes it’s my cumulative gpa! Does anyone know if you’re supposed to receive an email for the USC portal after you submit your application? I heard you’re supposed to, but I didn’t receive one
@lisa976 Yup, you’re supposed to. I got mine today that said I could CH eck status of my application. You’ll probably get it in the near future
Does anyone know how long it takes for transcripts to show up in “received documents” on the portal? My transcripts got to USC on the 29th and they’re still not showing up.
Can anyone chance me?
Major: Psychology (first choice), Sociology (second choice)
GPA: 3.92 -> 4.0 in both of my major choices
40 credits completed, 20 in progress. Likely getting a 4.0 this semester.
High school GPA: Terrible…2.67. I addressed this in my essays though, talked about how I was the “loser” in high school before discovering my passion for psychology, going to CC and doing really well.
1 strong letter of rec
Essays are decent to good.
No high school ECs, a few pretty good ones in college (my poetry’s been published in a lot of magazines, I founded and edited my own literary magazine, 60 hours of volunteer work this year alone)
Didn’t submit SAT.
Because I’ve completed only 40 credits in 3 semesters and due to my high school grades, I’m honestly hoping I just get an SGR because I don’t think those stats are good enough to get in immediately.
@istheisare I think you have an excellent shot. You may or may not get an SGR. I think students with fewer than 30 units complete or very close to 30 almost always get an SGR because there isn’t enough of a track record for them to judge. I don’t think your HS stats will matter too much; in fact, I’d say they would be impressed with the hike in GPA. The only reason I can see them giving you an SGR is if maybe you’re completing an important requirement (like a math that transfers or writing) or if they see the amount of units as being a bit much and want to see how it goes Regardless, again, I think you have a great shot getting into either major.
Is it required to upload supplement essay/ all the other documents on YouSC or will those all upload once the common app is uploaded?
How do you make sure USC knows about your AP scores? If I’ve applied before do I need to send them again through the Collegeboard website?
I’m a part of the trojan transfer plan. will i still get a SGR?
