@Orangered123 I don’t think the lack of a real HS transcript will hurt you. I was only in high school for a whopping total of two months. When I picked up my official transcript, I found out that it was completely blank. It made sense, but I figured they would at least have a note of the courses I attempted. Anyway, my HS GPA was pretty much non-existent since I had no completed courses!
Being a one year transfer would mean that USC is definitely going to ask to see spring/winter grades since your college history would be a little lacking. They aren’t usually too strict, but they just want to make sure your grades are pretty much the same/consistent with your fall semester, etc. Will you have at least 30 transferable units done before you transfer with your AP credits? I believe USC needs to see SAT/test scores if you don’t have at least that.
Anyway, the lack of a “real” HS transcript shouldn’t hurt you if perform well
I’ll have over 30 units at CC done before I transfer, excluding AP tests.
I’ve taken the SAT once so that could only help me here from what I think. I got a 2290 on the test.
Awesome, that sounds pretty awesome.
@Orangered123 Good, so it sounds like you’d be good to go. I actually believe you need to have the 30 units done by the time you send in your application (I believe it’s usually due at the very end of January or the first few days of February), but if you have SAT scores that should cover that problem If you have any other questions, let me know. I’ve been through this USC transfer process twice, so I’d be happy to pass along what I’ve encountered.
@Orangered123 2290?! You should apply to MIT :D/
@trojanwoman
My HS Standardized test scores were top notch but my grades were terrible. One of the biggest reasons why I’m trying to transfer. I’d probably need some really solid ec’s to transfer to MIT. I might consider it if I do a two year transfer.
@zettasyntax
Thanks for offering to help! I’ll make sure to get your advice regarding the process once the time rolls around.
I also plan on applying as a junior transfer. Any of you know if retaking ACT/SAT would help chances? Or will they not care very much as a junior transfer?
I’m applying to usc as a transfer for
Fall 2016. My major is computer engineering and computer science. I already submitted my common application. Ive waited for this moment for a very long time. But yea you aren’t alone trojanwoman im applying too aswell:)
I just Created my youSC profile with my common app profile how long does it take to update my youSc profile to check on the status of the application. I know they don’t come out till like June but I’m just wondering and yes I did use the same email for my YOUSC that I used for my commonapp
@TroyUSC2016 I don’t think they really care about seeing SAT/ACT scores if you would be a junior transfer and already have 30 units completed at CC. However, if they’re decent scores, I don’t see any reason why you shouldn’t send them. It definitely wouldn’t hurt
I’m applying to transfer as a sophomore
How many units do you have ?
@Deangeloyouknow you already submitted your Commonapp application? Aren’t they revamping the site?
I’m confused about the app. Where can I find the personal essay prompt that’s generated by Commonapp? Is there only one or are there several to choose from?
@trojanwoman they already resigned the whole website they took down everyone’s old account and you had to make a new one to sign up. Btw what’s your major¿
I’m actually coming from a CSU… Let’s hope that doesn’t hurt my chances! Lol
I read somewhere that turning in you app early doesn’t mean it will be reviewed first. Anyone care to weigh in on that? I plan to submit mine after I get my grades for this next semester.
I read that too. It makes sense from a logistical standpoint.
I plan to submit mine a few days before the deadline. I’m gonna take every opportunity to perfect my application. Although, something is wrong with my app: the Commonapp writing portion doesn’t display any of the personal essay prompts and as well all know, USC requires a personal essay.

@TroyUSC2016 Only 11% of transfer admits came from CSU but I’m sure the rate is low because there are fewer applicants from CSU than CCC. Good luck!
@TroyUSC2016 It won’t hurt your chances.
@trojanwoman I am not sure if it is the same for you guys, but I completed the (one) CommonApp writing prompt + the (two) “Writing Supplements” (which are the personal short essays from USC). There is a separate section for it.
@mochibbycake what was the one writing prompt?
@trojanwoman The CommonApp essay prompt was something along the lines of: “Explain why you’re transferring.”
