@willtram23 yes, I think you are in good shape to at least recieve an SGR. If they will accept you without an SGR will depend on if you completed the calc and writing prerequisites already or if you are taking them now.
Does anyone know how much they care/value the main Common App essay? My supplements were nice and my CA essay was short, well-written but just reiterated what my supplements said.
@cmartin12 you will be fine. what is your GPA?
What is the potential impact of taking “pass or no pass”. I am a freshman that received a 3.8 last semester and I am taking 16 units again like last semester. But here’s the issue, I am taking 4 units “pass or no pass” for my geology classes. I am a political science major. How will this really affect my chances? It is not a W. I am still taking the courses.
@DanHyunhCA I think letter grade will look better than pass or no pass because pass in science class seems like C grade.
@victory1 Will this seriously effect my chances?
@victory1 Lets say if I do get a B is there a way I can inform them?
@DanHuynhCA if your school let you change pass/no pass into letter grade, you can change it. I think B looks way better than just pass. I guess people usually think W or Pass in science class (hard class) is just C.
Pass/Fail classes do not count as transferable @DanHuynhCA
@DanHuynhCA I don’t even think that USC will give you any credit for the course, since you took it pass/no pass.
This is from USC’s website: “Credit/No Credit and Pass/No Pass marks are not included in the transfer GPA.” http://www.usc.edu/admission/undergraduate/transfer/admittedfall/transfercredit.html
I will speak to my transfer counselor tomorrow and get the full story.
How hard would it be to switch between colleges after being admitted? Is it virtually impossible to switch from outside of a school like Marshall or Viterbi into those schools (or do we just need to complete prerequisite courses)?
@Probtransfer Lets say you go in as poli sci and say you want to add journalism (Annenberg). It’s not as easy say like a CSU. You can’t just simply switch majors like that. From what I resarched, USC is not in charge of swtiching major it’s the schools themselves. For example, if you wanted to add journalism, you would need to have a special application to Annenberg journalism department. They would then decide if you would make a good fit for the department. It’s up to the schools within the university. This is coming from a prospective transfer himself and the research conducted so far.
Ok, thanks. I’m a prospective transfer too, but when I applied I listed 2 different schools for my 1st and 2nd preferences because I’m still deciding what I want to do.
@Probtransfer I’m not sure if it’s the same for transfer students as it is for Freshman but my son transferred from Dornsife/Undecided into Viterbi. He had to take CS 103, CS 109 and MA 225, get a B or higher in each and then his app was reviewed. The pre reqs differ based on major. And as far as selecting a first and second choice major, Viterbi does not even look at the second choice majors.
The good news is you can take up to four courses in a college that is not your original major at the get-go. This helps with those majors with a lot of pre reqs and sequencing like exists in Viterbi.
That’s good that you can take classes outside of the major you’re accepted in, I wonder if they have the same process in switching schools for transfers as they do freshman admits (I’ll be applying as a sophomore).
By the way, I had no idea that Viterbi didn’t even look at 2nd choice majors!
May someone please tell me if I have a chance of a SGR?im a first year cc student applying to marshall as a business major for my sophomore year, and completed 17units in total last semester(3.7GPA, Eng(A), Calc I(A), Chem(B), G.E.(A) ). I am taking 20 units this semester (which will exceed 30+units by the end of spring semester, so admission will only look at my college gpa, and not high school gpa/sat scores), which includes Eng(second semester composition.), calc II, Accounting 1, Econ. 1, and Chinese 4(4th semester foreign language). I am confident that i will have a 4.0 by the end of my spring semester, but I have a feeling that i won’t get a SGR because of my hs gpa(3.0) and my low sat scores(1700),which I wont bother to submit since I will have over 30+ units by the end of spring semester.
Do people actually call their admissions counsellors directly? If so, what sort of things do you talk to them about?
If you have more than 30 units by the end of your spring semester then they will not look at your grades or ACT/SAT scores. So I would not worry, you will most likely get your spring grades requested. @pomeranian4rich
