2016 - 2017 USC Transfer

I don’t understand this whole fuss about the SGR. There are applicants that receive an SGR and then get rejected… or am I wrong

And there are applicant that don’t receive one and then get accepted, or am I wrong?

@KELLYYYY did you resend your SAT scores if you already sent them in when you applied initially?

@my1459 When I called the admissions office I asked about that. They said that if you already sent your SAT scores when you applied from high school, they still have it on record for when you apply as a transfer.

@topchoiceschool from previous transfer thread, I have read that SGR might be a good indication of an acceptance. I think the admission wants to see how you perform during the spring semester before making a decision. So if they were about to accept you but were unsure about it, they would ask for your spring grade to see how you performed that semester, which may or may not change their final decision, vice versa. This is what I formulated after reading through many past transfer threads so dont take my word for it.

@my1459 nope i only sent them once when i applied initially. They still have them on file so you dont need to resend them.

@pomeranian4rich I think it’s important not to get too hung up on the idea of an SGR. Plenty of students get accepted without getting an SGR and some get denied after an SGR. The bottom line is we don’t know exactly why USC wants to see our spring grades, it could be because you haven’t completed all the prerequisites yet or maybe they just want to make sure you’re thriving in a college environment. But receiving an SGR or not receiving one is not indicative of your admission decision.

Do any of you guys know if they consider whether you’re coming from a 4 year or a 2 year in terms of prerequisites/GPA/etc?

@pomeranian4rich just curious why you took chem for your first semester when you are a business major?

@silvermansachs i was unsure about my major, which was biochemistry. I’m planning on double majoring in business and industrial engineering, so that chem class wasn’t a waste for me at least, except that I wish I had did better

Have you guys submitted your financial aid stuff? I know their priority deadline is Feb 16. I turned in my main stuff before the 16th and then I needed to send some minor documents, which I sent after the deadline. Is that going to hurt my financial aid package?

@topchoiceschool To be honest, I’m just completing all of my stuff now, so I would also like to know. I thought the deadline was March 1st?

Also, why does my portal say there are “no required documents” at this time when I have not submitted any financial aid stuff?

The USC website says that the CSS deadline is March 2nd for prospective transfer students, but the CSS application itself lists February 16th as the priority deadline (assuming this is for regular first-year applicants?)

I was waiting for my parents to finish filing their taxes, so I decided to wait a bit (since I saw that the deadline was March 2nd). Am I screwed in terms of financial aid now?

@AimlessWander No, USC’s financial aid website and tutorial video both specifically say March 2nd, we are fine. I am waiting for my parents to complete their taxes as well.

Hey guys. If I am trying to transfer from a 4 yr institution as a sophomore with a 3.7 GPA (fall semester) and also received the TTP, do I have a solid shot in Marshall?

@nittiniten how many credits have you completed?

@victory1 40ish by the end of the spring semester

@nittinten I believe you have a great shot at getting into Marshall, especially since TTP gives you the upperhand. To give you a quick stat that may or may not be useful - I was admitted into Marshall last year as a sophomore transfer from a 4 year institution with a 3.8 GPA, but never received the TTP. Your GPA sits directly at the average GPA for admitted transfer students last year, which is great. Since you received a TTP, USC is simply acknowledging that you’re worthy of earning a spot at the university, based off your high school performance. Just keep up with the consistency and you’ll definitely have a great shot.

Is anyone looking for a roommate for the fall of 2016? I will hopefully be transferring to usc. lmk if you would be inserted. Also, does anyone know of some ideal housing for a transfer student in terms of making friends? Thanks.
-Mike

how much is the average monthly rent near usc campus? is south campus worse than north campus in terms of security?
