Hi, I just thought with a new school year upon us we should start a new transfer thread!
Hi I’m thinking of transferring from UARK to UT next fall. I am a freshman and have been planning to do a year at another school and try to transfer into UT because I chose not to apply my senior year of HS. I’ll keep everyone updated on my GPA but currently I’m only taking 13 hours (schedule worked out weird) and plan to take more second semester. I also have 9 hours of AP credit under my belt and already have an officer position in the campus creative writing club. High school GPA was 3.52 and I was very involved. I plan to major in english with a concentration in creative writing! So far, do you think I’m on the right track?
Hi elizard, I am also planning on applying to UT as a transfer for next fall too! (The best of luck for both of us) Just get great EC’s, work on letters of recommendations by getting to really know your teachers, and aim for a perfect 4.0. English isn’t really that hard of major to get into (in comparison to other majors at least), but with a high gpa and decent extracurriculars and recommendations you will definitely get in (unless your out of state that is). Since your an English major the essays are going to be really really important so start early! Side Note: UT does’t care about high school stats really when transferring.
*Also side note check out UT’s transfer page, for transfer requirements and transfer class equivalencies.
@elizard, DS will attend U of A Fayetteville if he doesn’t get in to UT. He might transfer to UT later.
@utcswannabe I’m from Texas, so hopefully that will give me a boost in my admissions! Best of luck to you too!
Someone chance me?

Doing CAP at UTA. Planning on McCombs finance. Taking calc 1 & 2, macro & micro, political science, eng 1302, and chem 1441&1442. Need another class for the 30 credit goal, any suggestions? I’m taking chem because I would like to also apply for CNS CS. Go for 4.0 y’all.
Hi can anyone tell me if UT takes EC’s in to heavy consideration for transfer students? I’m going to UTSA right now but unfortunately CAP slots filled up instantly, so I’m going to have to try to transfer in on my own, I’m currently a freshman right now and I’m wondering if I should take the extra time to be in a lot of EC’s or just focus on GPA.
Hey guys, could someone let me know what my chances are at transferring to COLA for spring 2017?
I’m an out of state community college student right now
3.8 GPA (3.818)
33 hours currently (taking 13 hours in 2016 fall)
hey guys. can you guys tell me what role ECs play when applying to McCombs? I will maintain a high GPA but since i have a very long commute, I’m afraid i won’t be able to join any clubs at my uni bc all meetings are at 8pm. Also what type of ECs do they want?
Do i really need any leadership positions? I might create a club and i might be an officer for my friends club but i don’t know yet. I am willing to do anything to get into McCombs.
@savssavssavs @Feroxity I transferred this semester and I am currently a student in CNS majoring in physics. When I applied, I had only two recent ECs. I was the president of an organization and I helped plan a Veterans Day event. My GPA was 3.75. I also had the majority of the coarses on their recommended transfer checklist completed:

Hope this helps!
Hey guys,
I am currently a CS major at the UIUC school of engineering but am from Texas. I was offered CAP but didn’t accept and was now wondering what I would need in order to be able to transfer into UT CNS for CS. Does UT look at the rank of the previous university? Also, I was put in beginner’s physics for the first semester but plan on completing one of the required physics courses second semester. Would this count against me?
Transferring from UIUC won’t involve CAP, so as a transfer, your GPA and number of hours for transfer will be important. More important that the relative rank of UIUC. Check out the transfer policies. Just do well at UIUC and get As.

If UT gives more hours for my AP/IB credit than my current school, do they count all the hours that I have towards my 30 required hours or just the ones that my current school granted me?
How important is it to partake in ECs for a CAP student trying to transfer to McCombs? Should I try and be part of business organizations or just focus only on 4.0 GPA?
Just curious, why is that UT requires a resume in order to apply? I am just glad they don’t require 2 maths in order to be considered for admissions, so I have a bit of chance.
Chances…Please?

Decent, my Aunt work at the Guardian and is proof reading my essays for Grammar (no help with content though)
I was wondering typically how UT Austin calculates GPA for transfers? When sending in transcript from both a community college (Summer courses) and a 4-year university. Do they lump the two GPA’s together? or focus merely on the GPA where I attended as Fall and Spring student and where the majority of my hours are?
