2016 and beyond wedding moms and dads (Part 2)

People knowing these precautions took place could make it attended by eligible and having it be joyous versus having the worry.

No, because most people had to take a test before they entered the country.

Son and his wife are going to a wedding in Italy of friends next month. They are vaccinated but these false positives (like what just happened on The View) are concerning. I hope they do not fly for many hours only to be turned away at some point along the line.

Yea if they got their passports in time. I have some friends who have had delay after delay - were not able to get to the wedding due to Covid. IDK if their passports had expired so now they have to wait on their passports and then they might be able to go to see their only grandchild in person in Singapore. Thankful for all the face time online.

What are your thoughts on adding color with table linens?

Our selected hotel only has black and white linens.

I’m thinking of buying blue-gray linen and making linen napkins. (Actually, a friend may make them). My guess is we would need 160. We have almost a year!

Has anyone made custom linens for a wedding?

(I know they can be rented fairly cheaply, but I am not a fan of poly napkins).

Look online. You might be able to buy napkins. We wanted silver charger plates…and we were actually able to purchase them for $1 each. My DD did the searching.

Really…look and see. My bet is you can purchase already made napkins for about the same price as the fabric.

@Mom22039 look online. You should be able to find inexpensively–unless you have a very unique color in mind.

Side note: My D’s venue had white table cloths included, but if she wanted a color, it would have been $35/table (another $1k to already tight budget)
She found her preferred color online 28 @$10/each. Ordered a few to sample. Quality was exact same as the white cloths from venue. After the wedding, D sold them (unlaundered!) on CL for $250!

I made 100 napkins for S1’s wedding in several different cottons. Takes forever to hem them. I’d had the idea to make a quilt from them

Those napkins are gorgeous. Did the guests take them home?

Months before my kids got married, they asked me if the top to a quilt could serve as a chuppah. Their former roommate was making them a quilt as her gift.

We asked folks to leave the napkins on the table. OTOH, I made sets of four steampunk epoxied coasters for every guest, so it’s not like folks went home empty-handed!

Was going to make a quilt from the napkins, but they split up before I got to it. :frowning:

Quilts are fine for a chuppah! I made a chuppah for a former CC-er and am converting it to a quilted wall hanging. Chuppah was 11x11, am cutting it down to 8x8.

Hi @gosmom Would you clarify the pricing for me? Did she only need 28?

@Mom22039 My D needed 25 round table cloths and 3 rectangles. Online: $10/each (plus tax, IIRC).
She sold them for $250 on Craigs List. So cost her $30 for table cloths, vs. $1196 if she would have gotten through venue.

Question/Comment:
We are invited to a wedding in November. RSVP is through The Knot. H and I would like to attend the outdoor wedding (yes, outdoors in Ohio in mid November!) but H is uncomfortable with attending the indoor reception - so we will not attend that - either we both go or neither of us goes!

I started the RSVP but it does not give an option to attend just the ceremony. So my COMMENT is, in times of COVID it might be a good idea to separate rsvp’ing for the two??? My question - not really a question but I guess I have to reach out to the MOB - my neighbor - and ask what I should do because I don’t want them to pay for us in the meal head count.

Complicated.

Yes, complicated; however, you are being very considerate in wanting to avoid being in the reception headcount.

Good point.

@abasket maybe contact the couple or the parent you know…and ask about this.

We have seen RSVPs with multiple items…things like the welcome event, day after brunch, ceremony, dinner. Maybe they didn’t even think of this. If the RSVP is online, it might be easy to change it.

I did my niece’s RSVPs on her Zola website. It’s very easy to add an additional item for rsvp. You just have to be sure the guests complete each item requested.

Yes as I mentioned I will reach out as I don’t see
Any other way. The rsvp deadline is less than 2 weeks away - I was holding off responding “hoping” life might get a little safer Covid wise but here we are.

Just a thought for future rsvp’s!

My daughter did her RSVP’s through Zola too (saves a lot on postage!) She set it up so people RSVP to specific events. Somehow it knows what you’re invited to and only gives you the RSVP options for those events (rehearsal dinner, welcome party, reception, brunch) @abasket In your case, I would do a reach out.

Friends of my husband only wanted to attend the cocktail hour for my D’s wedding (for a non-covid related reason but that is beside the point) and they just called us and we made the arrangements. As hosts we appreciated their call and were glad they could join us for the ceremony and cocktail hour.
