2016 Chance Me For UCI Bio Sci Please!

freshman year: 3.0/3.0
sophomore year: 4.0/4.0
junior year: 4.17/4.33
senior year: 4.3/–

I believe my UC GPA is around 4.07 (could’ve been higher, but I took classes during every summer so I had room for other classes I wanted to take during the school year; would’ve been 4.17 I believe)

SAT: 1870
EC: Service Club (400 hours) held position, 2 special interest clubs (leadership club that promotes and hosts school events and a cancer awareness club) as well as being part of the founding class for a club that competes and hosts competitions in STEM related fields.

Essays: wrote about how I was very sick often as a child and had my grandmother take care of me (she was a former doctor) and how after being sheltered and being taken care of by her my entire life, I find amazing qualities that she has within me, and I wrote about how I’m the one taking care of her now (spoke about how I take care of her IV and how I do the same things she did for me when I was younger) made me realize that it’s what I want to do something related to the health care field in the future.

2: wrote about my experience volunteering at a recreational facility in an underdeveloped neighborhood for kids who have disabilities. Wrote about my experience with one child and how much I learned from him and how it's given me a new perspective on the world. Also mentioned how this sparked my interest in neuroscience/pediatrics

Are my essays generic? I have no idea so I can’t really tell if they’re really compelling or not

Income: ~13k single parent working

Accepted at SLO, CSULB, UCR (with highlander academic scholarship) waiting for the rest

Thanks!

SAT is a bit on the lower end, but you seem to have a good chance of at least one of the mid tier UCs.

Given your financial situation many colleges will be more accomodating — I think you have a pretty decent chance at either of the three mid level UCs, UCI UCSB, UCSD.
