Advanced to state! Does anyone know how many people from state are chosen?? I know 500 move to national finalist but out of how many typically?
Iām guessing that 10 people from each state are chosen
@lilypad depends on your state - each state gets a different number. You can go here: https://www.elks.org/enf/scholars/mvswinners.cfm
and pull up the winners from you state from last year to see how many were selected
Please call your local and district contacts if you didnāt advance, and ask if they give scholarships at those levels. Some lodges do; some donāt. Worth asking about, as many lodges have their own (non-MVS) scholarship programs, too: applications may still be open for some of those.

Of the 500 National Finalists, 20 will be selected to attend a Leadership Weekend in Chicago from April 22-24, 2016. These 20 top National Finalists will receive a scholarship of at least $20,000, and will compete for a top award of $30,000, $40,000 or $50,000. To be considered for the Leadership Weekend, National Finalists will be required to submit a secondary application online, which will include an essay, college plans and scholarships/grants/aid/awards received to date. National Finalists will also be required to mail their FAFSA Student Aid Report and a Teacher Evaluation to the Elks National Foundation office in Chicago.

Any chance that even though I received a lodge-specific scholarship, I might receive a district one though I didnāt pass it? (I think not, but just thought Iād double checkā¦)
Maybe. Every region is different. But usually if you didnāt advance, then anything scholarships that do come through are from the lodges. But Iāve also heard of a couple at the state level, soā¦ it varies.

Kept calling my local lodge for the past couple of days. They didnāt even bother looking at the applications until this week and wonāt tell us anything until Monday. Guess none of us from my area will be moving forward at this point since itās definitely way too late. Bummer.

Iām sorry to hear that. That was the exact point I was trying to make weeks ago in a post I made. I had to get the state head involved to contact the lodge for them to even look at applications. Yes the organization is giving out scholarships but it doesnāt mean that all care to do their job. Itās sad when you put in all the effort and hard work and you may not get the chance to move on. Fingers crossed they will get on board fast and the organization will honor any from your lodge.
@Fuzerabit how did you manage to contact your state head? I feel like I should at least give that a shot and see how it goes. Thanks again!

To contact your state head. They provide a link to view the state heads name and number.
Did not advance in Ephrata, PA. Bummed.
