@Fuzerabit well they emailed me in january after they read my mvs app telling me to fill out their local application and they might be able to get a scholarship.
Then the letter came today!

Hey guys! I recently received an email telling me Iād advanced to the State round (for CT) which was super exciting, but now Iāve just received a letter in the mail from the committee which says that my application has been submitted to the NATIONAL committee for review!! Iām a little surprised because I thought they said they would be notifying finalists in late February, so Iām wondering if maybe Iām interpreting wrong? Super exciting no matter what!
Congrats on your scholarship! The application you submitted wonāt be reviewed any more. Thereās another application for National Finalists.

Maybe they review it briefly. But the new app is the one more heavily considered.
Okay, the letter I got was kind of confusing and said something like āthe California-Hawaii lodge has forwarded your application to the ENFāā¦ does that mean I am a national finalist?
Also, what does the second app ask for and what is the criteria for judging? Do test scores still matter? Or is it more extracurricular oriented?

These are all by mail.
The new application asks for a 500 word essay, and any funding you have received so far. If youāve already won scholarships, that may take you out of the running. Elks is very heavily need-based ā and if you have scholarships, your need is being reduced.
@CourtneyThurston, the letter we received from our state Elks association said, "we are pleased to inform you that your brochure has now been forwarded to the Grand Lodge National Office for the next plateau of judging. What does this mean? There was no mention of a new applicationā¦perhaps there are two levels at the nationals?
It sounds like you/your child is a National Finalist. Lodges may not know about the National judging process, so Iām not surprised they didnāt mention the new application. Wait for the National notification via email before you get too excited, just in case.
Everyone that makes National Finalist gets a $4k scholarship at minimum.
