There doesn’t seem to be many new threads on Scranton (at least that I can find) so I wanted to see if anyone would tell me their opinions? My son was accepted to their Neuroscience program and plans to go Pre med. We haven’t been able to visit Scranton yet so we know very little about it … Anyone have any opinions about that program? Where they do research? And then basic college life, dorms, food plans, things to do ect… Thanks!
Scranton is one of the most appealing schools in the Northeast and probably one of the most underrated academically. It has excellent first year retention rates as well as graduation rates.
The facilities are first rate and impeccability maintained, the dorms clean and modern, the food is fantastic.
In this category of school, B+ students, there are very few peers to be honest when you factor academics, campus quality and social life, it more less comes out first IMO. St. Michael’s in Burlington VT is close but Scranton would be my pick for science, as the facilities are outstanding. Google Loyola Science Scranton and look at the pictures.
@kristi4806 One thing you might not realize is that the campus is in town but has a nice leafy center. The area around town has little stores and restaurants so its a nice active environment.
My D and I toured UScranton last year and loved it. Out of all the academic safety schools she looked at, this was her favorite by far. We also toured St. Michaels but didn’t feel it was of the same caliber in any way (academically, socially, dorms, etc). D is also a STEM major, possibly pre-med but unsure at this time and there was great feedback from someone here on CC about the lab facilities and how great there are. In the end, D had hoped for a significant scholarship and although she did get very good merit aid, that did not happen and she picked another school. One thing to note is that the airport is very close if that is important to you as it was to us.
