Applying as a junior transfer. Chances are welcome
Question: since I’m applying as a UC intercampus transfer, do I still need to submit SAT scores, even though I took them when I was still a senior in high school and I’ve already submitted them as a freshman applicant? On the UC transfer app it didn’t ask for SAT/ACT scores.
@k0alas5ever No. Sometimes, they won’t even ask for your high school transcripts. If they ask you to send your test scores, then you will need to - but I’m pretty sure you won’t have to, as they are irrelevant at this point.
Current school: UCM
Applying to: UCSB, UCSD, UCLA, UCI, UCR
Major: Gender Studies
GPA: 3.29
GPA with projected fall grades: 3.48
Major GPA: gender studies isn’t a major at UCM (reason for transfer)
Major Prereqs: UCM doesn’t offer any gender studies courses
UC Reciprocity: will be completed in spring
ECs/work: currently a resident assistant + senator for student government
Ws or P/NP: one Pass
@goldencub UCD doesn’t offer it, it’s a shame since it’s a great school and not too far from home. UC Berkeley and UC Merced are the only other ones that offer it. I wouldn’t be able to get into Berkeley and honestly in terms of undergrad, I don’t know if Berkeley is the right environment for me. I would prefer it for grad school. I am not bashing on UC Merced but it’s too new. The major I will do if I stay at UCR has an emphasis you can choose if you are interested in public health so it won’t hurt me to stay.
@anonmus sorry for the late reply but yes im applying to CS in L&S in Berkeley. Been keeping in touch with a friend from high school that has been going to Berkeley and he says that there is no major disadvantages between the different colleges for CS, even if its B.A to B.S.
So the transfer academic update is coming soon. Do we just email if our spring quarter courses don’t end up being the same ones we list on the application, knowing the UC course registration system? Also what is the rule on upper divs? I have finished my GE requirements and will finish my major lower div requirements next quarter. However if taking upper divs disqualifies you from admission I can only take 3 classes next quarter.
the TAU will allow you to make any changes to your spring schedule. you don’t need to email any school, that’s what the TAU is for
you will also have access to the additional comments section, so you’ll be able to share anything with the other UCs that you want
from UCI’s website:
Unit Credit for Work Taken Elsewhere
Limitations on Transfer Credit
[Community College] Students will be granted up to 70 semester/105 quarter units of credit for lower division coursework completed at any institution or combination of institutions. For units beyond the maximum, subject credit for appropriate coursework taken in excess of this unit limitation will be granted and may be used to satisfy requirements
Please note:
Units earned through Advanced Placement, International Baccalaureate, and/or A-Level examinations are not included in the limitation and do not put applicants at risk of being denied admission.
Lower or upper division units earned at any University of California campus (including regular academic year enrollment, summer session enrollment, extension courses, cross/concurrent enrollment, and the UC Education Abroad Program) are not included in the limitation, but are added to the maximum transfer credit allowed. Excessive units may put applicants at risk of being denied admission.
In essence, taking upper division courses does not penalize you in anyway. the only time they hinder chances of admission is when the units acquired lead to senior standing
all the units we earn at our respected UC campus will be used to determine our standing. like lower division courses, upper division courses will also grant us units. the only thing to keep in mind with UD courses is determining whether one UD course at one UC is equal to that of another UC’s.
regardless, you will still get unit credit for all courses you take at your UC (which includes UD courses). although you’ll get the units, depending on the discretion of your goal UC, the UD courses you take now at your campus may or may not fulfill major requirements for your goal UC’s. it’s a good idea to keep any UD course syllabus available, that way once you transfer, you’ll be able to petition to have that UD course you decided to take to fulfill a major requirement
