2017-2018 Audition Calendar for Summer and Year-Round Work

Does anyone know the timeline for when most theaters make offers? If you received a CB from a theater is that usually it? Or do they ask that you audition one more time on site?

Last year, D had a few callbacks in-person at Strawhats, was asked to submit specific things via video - not in person. The video took her 2 days to put together, and she was offered a contract about 3 days later, so a little less than a week after the initial audition. She had friends that got offers much later than that though, so I think it depends on many factors. There are a LOT of puzzle pieces that these casting people have to put together. I feel like it is a gigantic game of musical (pun intended) chairs!

My D had a good experience yesterday at Strawhats as well – did the Tap and dance calls and received a few callbacks…I was curious about the timing as well. NETC tomorrow.

Curious if anyone has had any experience or Feedback for Surflight Theatre, Mac-Haydn Theatre, Clear Space Theatre, Tibbets Summer Theatre, NCC Summer Theatre or RWS?

Yes, I’d be interested in hearing more about those place, too, particulary Surflight and MacHaydn.

I know many kids who have spent summers at Surflight through the years and had a good experience. I’ve seen shows there and always enjoyed them. The son of one of our CC members, jasmom, was there several years ago and I was fortunate enough to see him perform. Since then, Surflight has gone through some changes and turmoil surrounding poor financial decisions. A restructuring didn’t succeed and the theatre closed in 2015, and just reopened last year under new ownership. I would try to be in contact with someone who was there last year. They usually have a good line-up of shows and LBI is a wonderful place to spend the summer!

Do a search for Surflight here and see what discussions you can find. If I recall correctly, there was someone local who seemed to have knowledge about the theatre. They might be able to share what the current status is.

Just in case anyone was wondering, these are the theatres that were at NETC this year:

Has anyone had a student participate with Berkshire Theatre Group?

@CMB625, @monkey13’s D did Berkshire a few years ago, but she hasn’t been on CC very much lately. Maybe you could PM her?

Anyone heard anything about Timber Lake Playhouse?

@stmama PM sent.

@stmama My D spent a wonderful summer (2016) at TLP! PM for specific questions!

Does anyone have any info./insights on Millbrook Playhouse?

Read some mixed reviews of Millbrook though mostly good. More recent were good reviews, but last dated 2015.

My D has a friend who auditioned at Millbrook this year & did not have favorable things to say about the experience. Not sure if that means anything though. I also read those older reviews from 2015 as my D was going to go to that Millbrook audition & decided to go to another one instead.

I think the son of @milmom has worked at Millbrook.

Is Weathervane in New Hampshire a tuition based intern program does anyone know or have done that one before. ?

@Mr.Eggroll S worked at Millbrook the last two summers and really enjoyed it. He was in the ensemble in two shows the first summer and then cast as a lead and principal in two shows last summer. Millbrook is located in a small town but they produce top-notch shows. The pay isn’t fantastic, but housing is provided and they also fed the actors dinner every night except Monday. He was able to save some money, but I think he gained the most from the performance experience, personal relationships and professional connections. My S loved the people he worked with and maintains friendships with many of them.

@theaterwork - I believe Weathervane is a tuition based program. More and more of the theaters that give EMC points are…
