@gingersnap97 - Based on an earlier post in this thread my take away was that someone had a list as they were looking at theatre’s seasons. Perhaps my D has been provided a list; I guess I should check with her. I expect there could be less in attendance because of A1s but SETC has quite a few attending this year 70+ - not sure how that compares to previous years but seems like a reasonable amount so maybe A1 didn’t cause too much of a decrease. My D was at A1 so I guess if attendance is less she will have already been seen by those that were at A1 anyway.
@Raam1012 On the NETC application instruction page there is a list of companies that have recently attended NETC auditions. It’s not a list of those planning to attend this year, but it should be a good indicator of who might be there. Here is the list: Barnstormers, Barrington Stage, Bill Hanney’s Theatre By The Sea, Berkshire Theatre group, Blue Gate Musicals, Camden Shakespeare Festival, Carousel Music Theater, Chamber Theatre Productions, Children’s Stage Adventures, Circle in the Square Theatre School, Commonwealth Shakespeare, Cortland Repertory Theatre, Greater Lowell Music Theatre, Encore at the Point, Fiddlehead Theatre, Glove Theatre, Hackmatack Playhouse, Hampstead Stage, Company, Hangar Theatre, Jeans Playhouse, Kaleidoscope Theatre, Inter-Lakes Region Summer Theatre, Lost Nation Theatre, Mass MOCA, Matt Davenport Productions, Merry-Go-Round Playhouse, Missoula Children’s Theatre, Mt. Washington Valley Theatre Co., Music Academy International, Mystic Seaport Museum. New Bedford Festival Theatre, New London Barn Playhouse, North Country Center for the Arts, North Shore Music Theatre, Prescott Park Arts Festival, New York Film Academy, Ogunquit Playhouse, Palace Theatre, Paperrmill Theatre, Patrick Darow Productions, Peterborough Players, Plimoth Plantation Players, Powerhouse Theatre Training Program at Vassar, Prescott Park Arts Festival, Pricilla Beach theatre, RWS Entertainment Group, Royal Caribbean Productions, Shakespeare Productions, Inc., Stella Adler Studio of Acting, The Theatre At Monmouth, Virginia Repertory Theatre, Walden Shakespeare, Weathervane Theatre Players, Winnipesaukee Playhouse.
@janne006 - thank you!
Can anyone tell me about the Barrington Stage Company? It’s a 10-week musical theater training program in Pittsfield, MA. My son has a phone interview with them later today. A class-mate of his attended last year and loved it. If he’s accepted, would this be a better choice than summer stock work?
If anyone has any info on Berkshire Theatre Group, please pm me, thanks!
If you google Audition Update there is a tab called Gig and Tell. There are many theaters listed with ratings and comments from those who have worked there.
Berkshire and Barrington are well-respected theatre companies, and like Williamstown which is probably at the top of the heap, will provide a wonderful experience for college kids. They are, unless something has changed, all internship type programs that are pricey and that require an audition. If you can afford it, they are an excellent way to spend a summer and will come with valuable and long-lasting connections.
@boatmom - I think Barrington has a decent reputation. Just be aware the training program comes with a significant cost I believe. But it does give students an opportunity to perform, continue to learn their craft and I believe also become EMC and earn equity points which is a nice perk.
Kids I’ve known that have done Barrington have been VERY happy with the experience gained.
It’s StrawHat this weekend! Break all the legs!!
NETC auditions are also this weekend! Best wishes to all! Especially those who are doing both StrawHats and NETC! Would love to hear all feedback!
@janne006 you are on top of all these. You could side hustle a list of dates and deadlines so the rest of us could lazily rely on your research for next year and only edit when new dates come out. BAL to your D this weekend.
@IfYouOnlyKnew Ha! I’ve learned a lot over the last 4 years! Every Spring I come back to CC to scour the Musical Theater threads for information on Summer Theatre jobs and auditions. It is really hard to get to the end of the season and wait and wait for a contract. This year, my daughter’s senior year, I thought I’d get on board right away to make sure I didn’t miss any opportunities. As Mom, of course, I have to take a back seat – but I like to be “in the know” when she calls. This year I learned about A1 auditions from CC before my daughter had heard anything about them at school. This CC Musical Theater “hive” mind helps so much! Now I am anxiously reading all the post-graduation posts . . .!
@janne006 I like to think of myself as a personal assistance. I help with logistics and planning (and whatever emergency call I get). I’m not bothered in the least by my role and I consider it part of my support of this journey. I also pass any information I hear on CC on with caution that he should do what he wants, but “I read on CC” has been said. I also reading the post grad posts… appreciative of those sharing the truth.
Did anyone else here apply for an apprenticeship at Theatre Aspen this year not hear back yet?
Break legs to all at Strawhats and Netc this weekend!!
My daughter has her first auditions with Strawhats today at 5:30, and she’s a bundle of nerves! Sadly, she sprained her ankle and has been in pt, so dancing will be limited to say the least. Horrible timing! Will update tomorrow with her experience. Break legs to everyone auditioning today!!
@MTheatreKid My daughter got a “no” from Theatre Aspen last week.
@duxellen S had his first Strawhats experience yesterday. For dance there was a mover call, a dancer call, and a tap call. Choreography was taught before the calls so it was easier to choose which to attend. Hopefully this will alleviate some of your daughter’s stress today. Break legs everyone!
Break Legs to all auditioners this weekend at NETC and Strawhats! My D made if from NYC late yesterday to Natick by 10 am this morning - what an adventure! I admire all these hard working kiddos so much. I don’t know how they do it.
