2017-2018 Audition Calendar for Summer and Year-Round Work

Just happened to my D. Got on line for MWTA, filled out app w/ credit card. Already full. :frowning:

I’m so sorry @rocktheaudition2; I had no idea how close I probably came to missing it. I submitted the application at about 10:10.

@choirsandstages congratulations on getting a slot! I was watching the application page – 10:00, 427 slots; 10:06, 195 slots, 10:07 129 slots, 10:08, 57 slots, and “Out of Stock” at 10:09. :frowning:

My d got her MWTA app in at 10:06, beating her time last year by two minutes. Now the long wait to see if she got a coveted Saturday slot (fewer theatres show up on Friday and Sunday).

What’s MWTA ? Midwest theatre auditions. ?

I don’t really understand the thought process behind why MWTA does their audition signups the way they do. I understand that they only have so many audition slots but wouldn’t they be better off doing some type of screening process rather than just first come first serve? Or do they know they will get enough talent this way and don’t have the time/need to add another layer to their process. D wasn’t planning to apply but I am just curious about the process for possible future reference.

@theaterwork Yes.

@waitingforlife – good questions!

Some students who submitted pre-screens to UPTA have received notifications that they passed.

Does anyone know how long the UPTA notifications last? Is it all done in one day or is it over time? Are scores given when the notification is received? Do you find out if you didn’t get passed?

@Raam1012 D got an email today that she passed. She didn’t get her scores. Talked to her quickly - she didn’t know if it’s over time or not. But, last year she didn’t pass (lessons learned about last minute/bad audition videos!), and got an email notifying her.

@MTmom2017 I heard of some who got emails yesterday so I guess it is over time. I think it might depend on when you submitted too - not sure. Thank you for the information.

The deadline for actors is January 12 (I think), so I was wondering if it might be that late, but someone said they should know if they passed the prescreens by November 15. I don’t know if that’s accurate or not…

Thank you @janne006

The application for ITAs is up now – Illinois’s statewide professional theatre auditions. The ITAs are February 3 and 4, which is the same weekend as UPTAs however.

My kid has done ITAs. The bummer about ITAs is that they do not do callbacks that weekend, so you have no idea how you landed. I really wish they’d change that policy. It seems as if their auditions are geared towards local actors.

My kid did get a callback for a solid theatre a month or so later, but the audition was the NEXT DAY, and there was no way to get there (inexpensively and sanely) from NYC.

@zebracocoa. my daughter did ITAs twice and also found many of the theaters geared toward local actors. Also, she was looking for summer work, and many of the theaters were year-round. Now that she is available for year-round work and has experience working in Chicago, she planned to do ITAs again, but she is going to go to UPTAs instead.

A1 application is closed for 2017-2018 submissions. The application for 2018-2019 auditions will open in August. Best wishes to all who will be headed to A1 auditions in January!

Students are still getting UPTA notifications – at my D’s school, some yeses last week and some “waitlists” this week.

My D got her UPTA notification yesterday afternoon
