2017 - 2018 USC Transfer

is accounting 1 the same thing as financial accounting??? also does anyone know if sophomore transfers have harder time getting accepted and/or do they usually get accepted as spring admit??

@adkjnsf it is the same thing, but if it’s the business school you’re referring too, they only prefer to see accounting completed in junior applicants because they want sophomore transfers to take accounting there (although it wouldn’t hurt your chances a whole lot). Sophomore applicants will generally always have a tougher time being accepted since they have less credits for the admissions officers to go by, but USC seems to accept quite a bit of sophomores, especially for spring (nearly all sophomore applicants get Spring Grade Requests, so there are also a decent amount that get accepted for the fall).

@zettasyntax Ahh I see… yeah knowing me I have a feeling my essay might end up sounding a bit cheesy too lol. And damn that’s actually a great idea. Thank you so much for the advice!

@awalksonman Yeah, I’m definitely going to be including my use of USC resources in my essay now… thanks for the advice! Also, do you apply as a fall/spring 2017 transfer or does the admissions office just choose which semester you’ll be placed in? I really want to be placed in Fall but I’m not sure how I can possibly secure a spot (if, that is, I do get accepted).

@awalksonman when did you apply and when did you know that you got spring 2017?

@penntousc & @awalksonman Thank you!

@Elizabeth223 @zonatransfer I applied in February like everyone else, and the counselors placed me in spring admits. I’m not sure about the politics behind it but you don’t really get a say haha. I found out I got in mid-August

@awalksonman holy crap August! That’s crazy

Mid-August?!? I would already have housing and everything set up for the school year! That is crazy.

Transfers really get slim pickings when it comes to housing their first year - even more so for spring admits. I had a really difficult time getting housing as a spring admit and had to be placed into temporary housing with like 5 other guys, but I refused that offer. I only live about 9 or 10 miles from USC anyway, so I just chose to commute. It would have been nice to live near campus though.

@awalksonman is totally right about the whole spring admit thing. It’s really too random to notice a trend and there’s almost nothing that can be done. I’d like to consider myself the crazy poster boy for trying. I emailed just about every person I could and even sent a letter directly to the usc prez. No luck :stuck_out_tongue:

@penntousc Thank you! and do you know if they want sophomore applicants to take business cal as well?? and if you know any classes i should be taking it would really help me out lol i have no idea what I’m doing.
its for marshall btw.

@adkjnsf yeah they either want the equivalent to their business calc, or their calculus 1. I would advise that you get at least 1 of those 2 calc courses completed with a B or higher, and that you complete the equivalent to their WRIT130 course (university writing requirement). Other than those 2, just get as many GEs completed as you can without overwhelming yourself. Good luck!

@mjstewart1224 @Pantafootball sorry it was mid-July! Didn’t mean to freak anyone out

And yeah the housing issue sucks like @zettasyntax said. I’m currently talking to a potential roommate through USCs housing app but I don’t even live in CA or know anyone there so I’m praying for the best right now

Oh, mid-July I can handle. I mean, it would be torture. But it’s doable.

@penntousc thanks so much

@awalksonman thanks for the additional info!
Also for letter of recommendation, it would better to get it from my econ professor if I want to transfer as an econ major right? Because I’m currently a music major and im not sure getting my rec from my violin prof will have much weight.

Currently a freshman in a private 4-year college in california hoping to transfer to USC. Any advice?

Also im a bit unsure on how to get close with my professors because all my classes are 250+ (beside music).

What should i do to create a good relationship with the professors to get recs from

@gottastudy54 Going to their office hours is always a good idea. If they take part in on campus activities or they are sponsoring a club you should try to get involved. If any of your professors are research professors I’m sure showing interest in their published papers or current work would go a really long way. Maybe even go to them for advice, so that they get to know you on a more personal level.

@ericeo thanks!
