@arteest I was wondering about what to put as my second choice. I would want pick broadcast journalism, but should you pick majors in the same school? I just ask this because if don’t get accepted into Annenberg, shouldn’t a different school be my second choice?
I am currently a freshmen at a CC and USC is my dream school. I want to attend USC Fall 2017 as a sophomore. MY question is if I take all GE’s for my 30 units that are required would I get rejected from USC. I do not know what I want to major in but as of right now I am leaning towards a Psych major. If I apply as a Psychology major would I have to split 15 units of GE’s and 15 units of Psychology prerequisites? Ultimate goal is to be at USC FAll 2017. I currently have all A’s this semester and plan to finish with a 4.0. I’m anxious thats USC will not accept me because I took a wrong course or something like that.
@Cisco524 actually, completion of GE courses is exactly what USC wishes to see in sophomore applicants (that’s exactly what I’m doing as well). Complete the GE’s but also make sure you complete the writing and math requirement, they’re usually most important.
Hello everyone. USC is one of the schools I am shooting for. I have over 70 credits at my CCC, 3.7 gpa. Majoring in business but I might switch over to computer engineering. For those of you who already transferred. Can you give a specific insight on how it was to transfer in to USC? Social life, studying habits, living situations? Thanks!
hey guys…I’m a freshman and i only took 13 credit hours this fall semester and I’m really worried that it might negatively impact the decision. Im planning to take 18 hours next semester tho! What do you guys think? I’m so worried! Also, they don’t count the credit hours I’ve applied at my college through AP scores? I have 9 hours worth of ap credits
@uscgrad2020 I don’t know much about AP credit, but your credit situation (13 this semester, 18 next) will more than likely result in your receiving an SGR (spring grade request), which is no big deal because most sophomore applicants receive them. It will not affect your yes-no decision. Good luck!
is it too early to start sending in transcripts?
^ @ilovetoeatoreos You could send in your HS transcript, but they want your Fall grades at your current school completed before you submit your current transcript. So for that one, you’ll need to wait until after the Fall semester.
Is it true that USC doesn’t consider EC’s at all?
@ReallyDoubtful I really doubt that. I’m sure they must consider them just like most other schools.
@ReallyDoubtful @ericeo Yes it’s true based on the admission representative from usc I talked to. I guess that they only look at your ec if your gpa is below 3.7 since 3.7 is their average admit rate. One of my friend had no ec, two letter of rec with a 3.8gpa and got in last year.
For Marshall, I will only have financial accounting done and not managerial…am i screwed?
I don’t want to apply to Dornslife because it requires 3 semesters of foreign language.
@CornellAEMplease just worry about getting the highest gpa for now and apply to Marshall as your first choice and dornslife as your second choice. So you could be considered for both.
Hey, guys!
Is anyone else in this thread applying for the Real Estate Development major or any other major in Price? Please let me know if you are!
Also, is USC similar to the UC’s in the sense that they do not look at/consider grades in non-transferable courses?
@Pantafootball Thanks bud!
I’ll be doing just that.
@CornellAEMplease whether you finish managerial accounting or not does not really matter. make sure you finish the math and english requirements for marshall AND complete most, it not all, of your GE. Finanical/managerial class will be your filler if you have room. You’ll take another accounting class once you transfer to usc so dont stress too much about it.
@gosteelers123abc they do not look at grades that are non-transferrable. They only look at classes that are transferrable to calculate your gpa. but they dont believe in academic renewal so if you had a F in a transferrable class and it has been replaced with another grade, they will take that F into account to calculate your GPA. that’s something everyone should know, so drop the class and get a W to avoid the risk of getting an F
@mrgreenjello you’re competitive in the sense of a high gpa. The classes you take or will take will determine your competitiveness. Having completed more requirements than other applicants will render you competitive no doubt. As long as your gpa is above 3.7 you are good. anything below they might have to consider your letter of rec. and EC to quantify where you stand with other applicants.
Anyone here applying to/know much about Annenberg? I originally was going to apply for Marshall, and still might, but the reason I’d be doing that is because I believe there’s more money to be found with a business degree. However, I think I would enjoy a good communications/journalism/media job much more, although starting salaries can be low. I’d just like to learn as much about Annenberg as possible before I apply, so I can decide which majors I’d like to select as my #1 and #2. I don’t think my chances would change if I were to switch to Annenberg, because my completed classes will only consist of university requirements and roughly 7-8 GE’s, and I may actually have an easier time getting into Annenberg because I’ll have A’s in my writing courses, as opposed to my (more than likely) B+ in my Calculus class.
@penntousc I’m not too sure but Annenberg is probably as competitive as Marshall. You can always switch major after you’re admitted. I remember from last year thread that an applicant was accepted for economic and was able to switch to marshall a week later after contacting the admission counselor. but anyway if you apply to marshall or annenberg it doesn’t really matter because you can easily switch between other majors. USC is a private university not public, so switching majors won’t be a hassle if you decide to change.
@penntousc I’m applying to Annenberg as a public relations major. It’s required to have at least one letter of req and it’s strongly recommended to have one semester of foreign language completed. I’m not sure if Marshall is the same, but make sure you have those. The school offers three majors: PR, journalism, and communications. I love PR, but I their journalism program is ammazing. Obviously grades are one of the most important factors on your application, but they do like to see internships or clubs that are geared towards your major. I know the PR students usually obtain 3-7 internships throughout their undergraduate career (that is extremely important when working in PR) and for your capstone you are required to secure an internship. Their courses seem to cover all the bases and are very hands on. You will learn how to become a strategic thinker, shoot video, develop campaigns, research properly, etc. There is a large part of com. (specifically PR) that deals with business and economics, so they do put an emphasis on that as well. Oh and lastly, there is a statement of intent for Annenberg applicants that must be completed. Hope this helps a little!
