2017 - 2018 USC Transfer

@pomeranian4rich @rawrrxboo
thank you!

Hey guys quick question,

The other day I spoke with a friend who works at USC, he told me that he has a friend in admissions who can put a ‘tag’ on my application. Can somebody explain to me what this is

@Warrior106 no idea but hit it up :wink: jk lol. It probably means you’ll get “special” consideration or something and I guess that’ll help you. So lucky you! (Low key jealous rn)

@Warrior106 Can I become best friends with him? Thanks.-.

Hey guys is it bad if I don’t have any letters of recommendation? I go to a big school so it’s kind of hard getting close with the professor

@dangerruss try reading other messages and responses on this thread and you’ll find many good advices and no it’s not bad to have a letter of rec. it’s even worse to have one if your professor barely knows you. I think it would be a nuisance for admission to read a generic letter of rec that is similar to many other applicants.

TLDR: don’t worry about a letter of rec. Focus on 1. GE completion 2. Major prerequisites 3. Essay(really important. They want students who can write well)

@pomeranian4rich Thanks for all the help bro. It means a lot.

Hi all,

I’m a freshman at Southern Methodist University. My GPA after this first semester is a 4.0, and after next semester it should about the same hopefully.

I have AP credit for the required econ classes

My courses:
FALL
Business Calc (Don’t know if I get credit), Intro to Sociology (3 Units), Disc 1312 (3 units), Intro to Bio (3 units), French I (Withdraw)

SPRING
Calc II (3 Units), Business Ethics (3 units), Intro to Acct (3 units), Intro to Stats (3 units), Economics 3301 (3 units), Disc 1313 (3 units).

Does anyone know whether this is good enough for a freshman applicant, as I see many of you have tons of GEs completed. I only have the Quantitative reasoning, Life Sciences, and 1 course in Social Analysis (Possibly 1 in humanistic inquiry if they count Business Ethics (Its an introductory philosophy course). Also, do you guys think that business calc will transfer over as I was recommended to take this by my school’s advisor.

Thanks!

@vg2020 I think business calculus will transfer over but it might depend on your course description. Compare it with USC business calculus description and see if the materials taught are the same or similar. I think you have a fair amount of GE completed but I suggest that you can add one more GE for spring so you’ll have 21 units. Idk if you’ll be able to handle that load but it’ll be worth it at the end.

Hi everyone, I was wondering as Business Transfer, would I need to complete all GE requirements? I read that we are suppose to take 2 GEs after we are accepted at USC, therefore would it be necessary to complete all GEs before transfer. My school does not offer course equivalence for the Bio GE.

Is CSS/Financial Aid due by March 1st? And also are we obligated to submit our AP scores if we took them? Because I don’t want to get more unneccesary credit. Thanks!

@usc4ever No it is not necessary. Completing most and having two unfinished would be okay because you’re required to take two GE once at usc

@itslife123 nope you don’t have to.

@pomeranian4rich Thanks for responding!

The only reason I am taking the advanced economics was because I didn’t know if AP credit for micro and macro count for the Quantitative Reasoning GE. If it does, then I might switch it out for an art history course or something.

@vg2020 you should check usc website for ap credits but I’m pretty sure they’ll accept all ap scores with 4+ Also I think business calculus or regular calculus or statistics counts as quantitative reasoning GE too (according to my college articulation with usc)

I just submitted my application to USC! I’m very excited and nervous. Question, since I am transferring as a Junior, do I need to send in my high school transcript and my college transcript or just my college transcript???

@hustlemuscle you’re not the only one excited :wink: lol and yes you submit both high school and college transcript. They want your high school transcript to see if you graduated or not.

Hey guys! I really appreciate any advice I can get on my application to transfer.

I am a sophomore at the University of Wisconsin (Madison) and will be applying to the PR major in Annenberg for next year. This will be my second time applying. I have a 3.3 after a rough semester due to family issues (had to drive seven hours each way every single weekend for over two months to help family and really got in the way of my studies) which led to me actually receiving an F in Accounting. I do not want to be in the business school at USC and am hoping they won’t care as much since it is not a required course and due to the circumstances behind the grade. I still did handle a high intensity internship with Hillary for America this year as well as a job and have impressive intern experience from this last summer. I hold leadership roles in multiple extra curriculars. in high school, I had a 3.85 unweighted gpa and was on honor roll all eight semesters. What are my chances? My classes are way better for this next semester, and I will not be traveling at all. I should be able to get up to a 3.5. Is it worth trying to do a retroactive drop of my accounting course so that is is not on my record?

Thanks guys! Hoping for the best! Good luck to everyone!

@cjm1996 as long as you explain your situation in the extra info section of the common application then they’ll understand. Accounting isn’t a requisite for business or public relation so don’t worry about it. Just explain why you took that class and what led to you receiving an F. If you have over 30 transferrable units they won’t care what you have or did in high school, they’ll focus solely on your college courses. Idk what classes you’ve taken but they like to see consistency in your college courses and taking an accounting class out of nowhere might raise some eyebrows. Annenberg the school itself is really competitive so a high gpa is necessary. If you’re on the low side I suggest focusing on your essay because they’ll focus more on your essay and maybe ec if you have a low gpa. Hope this helps. (From previous experience with applicants and admission people, they rarely care about your extra curriculuar and focus more on your college courses.)

I know that Marshall has their own job/internship portal, but I was wondering how significant of a difference it would make in job opportunity, in your opinion(s). I was looking into the Computer Science and Business Administration program because it seems like I could gain a lot more valuable information with that degree than with a regular BUAD degree (and I’m very interested in technology and internet entrepreneurship), but obviously that would only give me access to the job portal that is used by all students. Also, if you guys know anything about this CSCI-BUAD combo degree that is worth sharing, I would really appreciate some insight! Thanks!
