2017 - 2018 USC Transfer

@pomeranian4rich do you think completing two GEs in the spring with all prereqs complete will result in a SGR?

Also do you think admissions have a preference between bus calc vs Stem calc?

@jjcc77 yes very likely because those classes are required for your major, if you had taken them in the past and gotten good grades there are no needs for them to ask for a sgr. I have to say no. Lots of ppl I know from last year who were accepted have taken bus calc which was an easier route than regular calc.

Hey, sorry if this sounds dopey, but do I just have my school send an official transcript to the address that receives transcripts listed on the website?

My cc uses an online system to deliver transcripts and it listed that USC allows digital mail directly from the company. Can anyone confirm this? Could someone also explain the process that follows if one gets a SGR?

yes you can submit transcript and sgr electronically. when asked for a sgr you basically send in your transcript with spring grades on it.

Hey guys,

On the Common App the main essay asks, “Please provide a statement that addresses your reasons for transferring and the objectives you hope to achieve. You can type directly into the box, or you can paste text from another source. (250-650 words)”

Since I am only applying to USC, is it acceptable that I tailor this essay towards transferring to USC only? As of right now, my essay addresses why I want to attend USC and only USC.

Did anyone else write their essay like this?

Thanks

@gosteelers123abc I wrote mine tailored to USC as well. My friend who got in said it was fine and what he did as well. However, I am definitely interested to what other people have to say about it.

@gosteelers123abc Of course! That’s considered a little trick amongst transfers. If you’ve got the time, you could theoretically tailor your main supplement to each college you’re applying to(by sending your commonapp one at a time, and editing the supplement), thus making your overall profile stronger.

Hi everyone, my name is Hope and I am currently a freshman in college. My first semester I attended Duquesne University in Pittsburgh, but this semester I transferred closer to home to a less expensive school. My first semester I was a Biology major and earned just about a 3.2. The sciences are not my strong suit, so i changed my major to undecided. I am shooting for a 4.0 this semester to hopefully make my application much stronger! I realize my chances of getting into USC with a 3.2 for my first semester are highly unlikely, but I am hoping that with hard work this next semester and some great writing supplements, I have a fighting chance!

@hope0731 Your name says it all. Kick butt this semester and if you have any general questions, feel free to ask us here. We’re all on this ride together until June(and hopefully afterwards, right?).

@hope0731 make sure to complete as many GEs since this is your first year in college and hope that they’ll send you a sgr and not a straight up rejection. since you’re undecided it’s good to finish up all GEs

@AGoodFloridian Hey applying to usc for fall junior transfer. Cogsci major. 4.0 at a CC in WI. How do you make sure to send your common app once at a time? Ive tailored my main supp to usc and would hate to have that sent to the other schools im applying to

@peace4allpeeps go to your app in the usc section and submit everything then you can go back and change your essay and tailor it to other university and do the same thing.

@pomeranian4rich i appreciate the timely response . Thnk u

Hey guys, my Common app essay is 487 words, and at this point I don’t think I can write anymore without sounding repetitious. My essay is very clear and concise and gets straight to the point. Do you guys think 487 out of the 650 is fine?

@itslife123 as long as you were able to convey your ideas and reasons why you want to transfer then it’s fine. They won’t think you’re a slacker for not writing more. Being less wordy is the key. Get straight to the point and no filler words to sound fancy.

I had no clue the common app essay was 650… as a matter of fact, I don’t even think I’ve seen it on the website

@penntousc it is 650 words lol it says on the common app

@pomeranian4rich yeah I just found it, must have skipped over it when entering in all of the other information
