2017 - 2018 USC Transfer

Also, does it look weird if I took business calc during fall 2016 and am taking calc 1 in the spring? The only reason why I’m doing this is cause I’m also applying to UMich and they don’t accept business calc as a transferrable calculus course; they only accept calc 1,2, and 3. I would’ve dropped out of my business calc class last semester to enroll in calc 1, but by the time I found this out, it was too late and all the calc 1 classes were full so I had to stay in the class for the remainder of the semester. I hope it doesn’t look weird to them. I want to take calc 2 later on so that’s also why I’m in calc 1. I’m an Econ major by the way (already took all my major pre req courses with a 4.00 and am taking Econ stats in the spring too).

Does anyone know how to avoid putting down our sat scores in the common app?

@jjcc77 you just leave it blank. I’ve never reported my test scores on common app before.

@jjcc77 @cassidylynnn i just tried doing that and there’s a red star by it meaning that you must put something

unless you just select the option saying you’d like to report none

@cassidylynnn it definitely wont look weird haha! I already finished my math prereq for marshall but taking calculus 3 in the spring for fun :stuck_out_tongue: I think they would assume you’re taking it for your own interest and nothing else since you’ve already take business calculus.

@moncc44 your chance is going to depend on your GEs completion and major prerequisites. don’t worry too much about your ec since it doesn’t have much impact for transfer students. generally having more GEs completed along with major prerequisites will increase your chance. Make sure you have the prerequisites completed first depending on what major you’re applying to. If it is Marshall, (business school) then you need the prereq. taken care first.

@pomeranian4rich thank you! I’m applying to the dornslife school of arts and letters. Last semester I took all GE’s (5) and this upcoming semester I’m taking 5 classes which consist of GE’s and prereqs for my major (psychology)

Hey guys, I’m in the process of asking my teachers for letter of recs, And was wondering if there was a certain format they had to follow for writing these recommendations. Thanks!

@itslife123 There’s no format. you invite your professor through the common app system. should be under “recommenders”

Just curious, does submitting the whole application earlier than the deadline give any advantage? I want to keep revising my essay but I feel if I submit it near the deadline my app. wouldn’t be given as much consideration.

@usc4ever no. usc do not look at transfer’s app until April. They have to look at freshman’s application before transfers

Take your time on your essay @usc4ever. You will regret submitting a rush job, as mentioned, they aren’t looking at them for quite awhile. A couple/few days before deadline to avoid any last minute technical glitches would be fine. Also, step away from your essay for a couple days here and there, it is amazing what fresh eyes and a clear mind see.

I’m not sure if I want to report my SAT score. My score isn’t anything amazing or anything, and I’m a junior applicant so I don’t think it will even matter. What do you guys think? Do SAT scores impact chances of admission for junior applicants?

@ashurikko you can if you think it’s a good score but the focus will be on your college courses since you have over 30+ units

@ashurikko if you have completed 30+ units or will have 30+ units completed by the end of spring 2017, they don’t require you to send any SAT scores:)

@penntousc @pomeranian4rich You guys think USC seriously considers the second major choice of the applicant if they’re not fit for the first choice? Since I’m applying to Marshall for first choice and Econ for second choice I’m actually pretty curious about it

@Pantafootball honestly I’m not too sure about it. But I’m guessing if you don’t qualify for Marshall as in you will not have the math requirement in progress during spring, then they’ll reject you and redirect you to dornsife to handle your application. I might be wrong however. I had Econ listed last year as my alternative but because I didn’t hear back until mid-July, every major was probably filled up. So I hypothesize that if they don’t think you meet the requirement for the first major, you’ll be redirect to your second major.

@Pantafootball what @pomeranian4rich said, and also remember that everyone is considered for admission as undeclared if they are not qualified for either of their two choices, so you’ll sort of get 3 chances anyways

@pomeranian4rich @penntousc I’ll gladly take all the chances they give haha. And also about the math requirement that’s why I’m hesitant to dropping and waiting for spring. So that I can get my acceptance or rejection a lot sooner since I highly doubt I would get SGR for one ge science course since I’ve gotten straight As on all my GEs.
