2017 - 2018 USC Transfer

So, if we will have more than 60 units by time of transfer, do we need to send in our highschool transcripts? It shows up as one of the required documents, but I’m assuming it’s because my official transcripts haven’t arrived at USC yet

Does anyone know if the admission officers read every night word of the essay? Or do they just skim through it fast?

*every word

Hey guys! I applied to USC as a transfer from a California community college for the fall of 2017. Is there anyone who applied as a journalism major at the Annenberg School for Communication and Journalism like me?

Quick question, do we need to send our official transcripts by February 1?

@Orlando1997 The deadline for transcripts is a bit more lenient. While it’d be great if you could get them in by the 1st, I believe you have until the 15th to -seriously- get it submitted.

I had my high school send my transcript last week but on my YouSC portal, under required documents, it says “High School Transcript” and it gives me the option to “Upload/Fax”… Although, under “Received Documents,” it also says “Academic History - A list of courses completed and grades received from grades 9 through 11 in high school.”

Is there still anything I need to do for my hs transcript…?

@Skepta I really hope that they read every word and put time into reading everyone’s applications, but who really knows what happens under the hood?

@cc2LAuniversity My admit letter to Marshall was dated May 20th, 2016. (Junior transfer from a Pac-12)

Just submitted mine! I’m so relieved. Best of luck, guys.

IL have 6 out of 8 GEs completed by spring and all major reqs completed by spring. I applied with 23 quarter units done with a 4.00 gpa. Can I at least expect to hear back with a SGR?

@Skepta you’ll get an SGR

@Skepta no one here can tell you for sure but with your stats it is possible. What’s really important is the whole application not just your stats or completed classes. Especially if you are applying to Viterbi where they don’t require you to have any completed GEs. In the live chat last week they said they emphasize good grades in math, science and engineering courses.

DId any of you guys list activities you did in high school? Wasn’t sure if anything from high school mattered at this point, but they allow you to discuss activities from 11th and 12th grade.

@stahboy I am applying as an econ Major.

Really no point in worrying about an SGR right now, because outright decisions don’t even begin getting sent out until the end of March, and they’re almost all for TTP candidates. Outright rejections for normal applicants would likely come in April at the earliest, but IMO, if you have a chance at being outright rejected, you would know it.

Speaking in general, not directed at anyone

@smileesarefree I didn’t, but then again I didn’t do anything in high school… I don’t think it’d really do much to boost your chances unless your activities consisted of things you were very interested in that also represent your personality, and even if that’s the case, they’ll really only use it to get a better idea of what type of person you are. Really just depends on whether or not there’s anything that those activities show the admissions counselors, that the rest of your application does not. Good luck!

I heard TTP applicants can hear back from USC in March, but is that the usual time they release TTP decisions? Or is it more like a period of waves from March to May? When’s the latest a TTP applicant will get their decision?

@smileesarefree I was actually wondering the same thing so I called the admissions office and they said yes you can put anything that was important to you even if it includes things from high school

@moncc44
Certainly. As another poster mentioned, your ECs help build a better picture of who you are, which gives context when they start to evaluate other criteria in your application. Your background, community involvement, etc… all paint the “holistic” picture that they try to evaluate.
