@nvz1997 it will depend on how many GEs you have completed, as well as prerequisites for your intended major. The GPA is good, but it won’t mean anything if you don’t at least have (or will have) the university’s math and writing requirements completed by the end of spring. USC requires that transfer applicants take two semesters of writing/composition (with some exceptions for 4 year applicants) and the math requirement is pretty self explanatory, but it is also HIGHLY RECOMMENDED to have at least a handful of General Education courses completed by the end of your spring semester.
@penntousc Okay got it, yes I’ve stayed in close connection with the USC undergrad department and I will have the writing/composition requirements completed plus a good amount of GE’s already done, I made sure the classes I chose to take were all transferable. I am applying as an Econ major and my second choice major is Undecided, and I will have all pre-reqs complete by the end of this semester, except for the math requirement (Calc). If I do have everything in order except for the math requirement, do you still think I have a good chance?
@nvz1997 it will depend on how important the calc class is to them, because I believe that calc 1 and 2 need to be completed for Econ (I could be wrong, I’m applying for Business). Based on everything else, I definitely think you would receive an SGR as long as you maintain that GPA, but like I said it will all depend on how they feel about the math requirement not being completed. Good luck!
@penntousc Makes me feel a lot better about my application then! Also, Econ majors only require Principles of Calculus, but I believe the Math/Econ joint major requires up to Calc 3.
@stahboy @penntousc the 90% gpa.thing is their words not mine.
@nvz1997 i’m applying for Econ too! Have you completed 3 semesters of foreign language yet? Not really sure how important it is to have them.
Edit: answer already found.
I’m also Econ. Good luck guys.
This whole time I’ve been completing the major requirements for Dental Hygiene , however being that I am currently a freshman is college, i cannot apply as Dental Hygiene (only juniors can apply). Now that I must apply as Human Biology i have none of the major requirement completed for this major
@Skepta while GPA might be a big factor in admissions, imagine if you are going to a prestigious school known for its academic rigor and keep a B+ average, how can they compare this student with another student who gets an A+ average in a CC? I believe they will evaluate based on the academic rigor of the classes taken not just the GPA of a student ignoring where they are going to school.
@stahboy I’ve read about students who’ve attended Ivys and for whatever reason want to transfer out. Of the ones I know, they were all admitted. You shouldn’t be too concerned.
@smileesarefree Awesome! And not yet I haven’t taken foreign language, but I know the Macro/Micro econ classes and Calc are the most important, as well as any GE’s you are able to complete. Best of luck to you!
@stahboy if I may ask, which ivy do you go to?
Honestly in the college process, everything is important and a good balance of those things is important.
GOOD LUCK TO US ALL!!!
Hey guys, another question. Does anyone know where one may stand if receiving a SGR, like is that a good situation to be in? Is it more likely you will get in if you maintain a high GPA if asked for spring grades before USC makes a decision, or do they give this request to almost everyone? Thanks!
@skepta haha it’s okay. I go to Cornell
@mellyjune I totally agree! I wish for everyone here to get accepted. Can’t wait for this semester to be over.
@stahboy why the want for transfer? I’m actually applying to Cornell to transfer too as wondering if there are any negative aspects I should know about.
Did anyone here the AP Psychology test in high school? If so, did you submit your scores? Not sure if it counts for much at USC.
@Skepta I really have nothing against Cornell. It is beautiful here, the people are so nice and the professors are really interesting/smart like they know what they are doing. The only reason I am trying to transfer to USC is that I want to pursue a career in game development. Right now, I am a computer science major, but Cornell only offers a game design minor. I would be fine with just the minor but Cornell gaming is not that “hot” if you know what I mean. USC has a computer science (games) major and I found that really intriguing. If I wanted to pursue game development when I graduated from high school, I would have accepted USC’s offer in 2015, but I did not really have an idea of what I wanted to do in the future. So here I am
@smileesarefree I took AP psych and the exam, but I submitted my scores when I applied during high school. I don’t think it is required and self-reporting is just fine. But of course you can send them if you believe it will help your app or your credibility
