Hey guys, I am considering applying to USC marshall next fall. I have a total of 48 transferrable units along with some other units for public schools. If I apply, would they only look at my transferrable units gpa or my entire gpa which includes UC courses?
Thank you!
Edit: The reason i’m asking is because I hear mixed answers about this issue.
@mrgreenjello they’ll consider your GPA elsewhere as well, however I know for a fact that they are big on seeing academic transformations (turning it around) and upward trends when applying
Hey guys,
I want to transfer to USC and Stanford. I am a feshman at Blinn College in Texas, but I don’t think I will be admitted to USC and Stanford. I know Stanford, it very competitive as to USC. My high school GPA: 3.72. I am aslo from Texas. I don’t have a currently GPA. The school is an okay school, but I want to see a different atmosphere and learn different things and to become succesful as I want everyone to be. I haven’t participated in school activities but will. I was thinking about finding a internship for my field. I forgot to tell you guys that I want to become a computer engineering and probably minor in business. Stanford and USC are both private university in California. I think cost will be a factor formy decisions, but I know that both school is more genuine to students from low-income families. I also think my credits/units be a facor; I am worried that my credits won’t transfer. Anyone has the same issues as me can you give me some advice.
@katienewsom24 I was rejected from USC once before getting in, so I would like to believe that they admire applicants that have the courage to try again From what I recall, there were sooo many people from Texas at my transfer orientation, so it seems to be a pretty well-represented state
@penntousc Indeed! I will be here to offer walls of text yet again especially since last year’s thread is a ghost town and not many of the accepted students seem to be hanging out on the site much anymore.
@Pantafootball My majors when I was rejected were 1) Dornsife/Undecided and 2) Computer Science/Games. My majors the year I was accepted were 1) Anthropology and 2) Sociology. I was accepted for sociology, but am now majoring in computational linguistics. It’s a pretty new major that’s still not even in the USC catalogue for some reason despite having graduated its first student (she double majored in computer science and computational linguistics).
@zettasyntax I’ve already emailed my counselor at USC, but would you happen to know if they offer tours during spring break? Since I’m all the way out in PA, the only time I’m able to fly out is my spring break, which is March 11-19
@penntousc That’s a tough one! I remember the libraries and stuff being open so some workers/student workers are obviously still there during the break. I just have no idea if they offer tours as I wasn’t really on-campus that much during spring break. When the counselor gets back to you, I’d be curious to know the answer. Sorry I didn’t have one myself though =\
@penntousc you should definitely just go on campus and get a map of the school and look around… I definitely get even more motivated when I walk on around on campus.
@zettasyntax she actually responded to me right after I asked you that question, and said that they offer a transfer information session every Tuesday that they’re open which should also mean they will have full campus tours, which is really good to hear.
@Pantafootball that’s what I’ll end up doing if a guided tour isn’t available, honestly I just need to get a feel for the campus and city in general, since I’ve never been out there before. Sometimes you can even get to see more on self-guided tours anyways, so I’ll definitely consider that
Hi, I have a question about econ. I’m planning to apply Marshall this year and I’m not sure if I’m sophomore or junior applicant. I took econ during summer and I got C. I heard that I need to take econ at USC. So is econ transfer for credit? In the website it said “USC calculates your transfer GPA on the basis of your grades in all USC-transferable courses, including grades of D and below.”
@mrgreenjello as long as you have 30 transferable credits you will be considered solely based on your college coursework, so yeah you’ll still have a shot
@penntousc Awesome. Glad to hear that you’ll be able to go on a tour when you can actually make it out here I’ve eavesdropped on a lot of them (especially during summer school), so I can guarantee you’ll be hearing something about them mapping the brain of Yo-Yo Ma as he played some music I always seemed to get in the way of tours when they got to that part, haha.
@zettasyntax yeah I can’t wait to get out there, just seems like a city and a school that would fit me all too well with the high praise on athletics and all of the opportunities within the entertainment industry (which is where I’d like to do business). Hopefully all goes well and I’ll be there next fall!
@50312n yes your Econ grade is transferable as a normal ge course that transfers for credit it just doesn’t transfer over to meet the Econ requirement at USC. So yes include the C in your gpa.
