@mrgreenjello is this one course a major requirement ? Or just a regular ge course ? Depending on your major and it’s pre reqs that one course might be important or not. For example if you’re a Marshall applicant you can still get accepted not finishing all the ge’s but did the pre reqs which are calculus. But if you do every GE and don’t do the calc class you will be denied since it’s an absolute requirement for the major.
Hey guys, do you guys know when USC’s admission decision will start to roll out?
The official webpage said it’ll be by June 1st, but that’s the day when you have to make your decision for UC admission.
Will I have time to decide between UC’s and USC?
@laccstudent unfortunately, that is the case… And even worse, I would say the majority of applicants (mostly sophomore) got their decisions in between late-may, and mid-July… However there are applicants that receive decisions as early as March, but most if not all of them are Junior applicants.
@penntousc so as a junior applicant you might get it earlier? Wow I was not aware of this if that’s the case then I get even more stress bc imagine waiting for the USC decision and you get denied you’re stuck with no school! :-S
@Pantafootball I would say that juniors are the first to receive acceptances, didn’t see many rejections last year until late may
@penntousc well I hope they let juniors know on time because we need back up plans in case USC doesn’t follow through …
@penntousc @Pantafootball I hope they will give you the letter before mid-May, not around May 30th or right on June 1st. Imagine getting a SIR (my god, please no) at the end of May and have few acceptance letters from UCs.
Of course, your problem will be over if you have set to go to that UC specific, but if someone is rooting for USC, it’ll be a problem.
Keep in mind, they might just give you SIR on June 1st. Not a letter.
Argh, hope that would not happen.
@laccstudent that why I’m getting my pre req business calculus done in the winter so that USC won’t have to ask for my grades cause the other classes will just be basic General ed. I’m definitely going to be talking to a USC councilor or admissions representative about this.
@Pantafootball Nice, will you let me know as well? Because I might just have to take one of the major preparation on Spring. This is why I was worried. I want to get into USC more than any UCs.
Hello all! Glad to be part of this community of applicants. Here is what I’m dealing with.
Background Information: I was a terrible student in high school. Grades started to diminish the later part of freshman year. Recieved straight Fs my sophmore year. Sent to a continuation highschool for my Junior year. Graduated in the 250’s out of 300 in my class. Tried to do a 360 and attend CC for 2 semesters. Succumed to my old habits and ended up getting Bs in two classes and withdrawing from five.
Joined the military and straightnened myself out. Came back to OCC last year and raised my GPA from a 3.0 to a 3.67. I plan to apply to transfer for FALL 2017.
Your major: Business/Accounting
Your transferable GPA: 3.67 (trying to shoot for a 3.7/3.8 before I transfer)
Your major GPA: 4.0
Your ECs: Community service at the public library. Accounting Society/club. Veterans/Business honor society at OCC.
Work Exp: 3 years active duty military. 9 months in combat. Leadership position.
Schools applied: I plan to apply to USC, UCLA, UCI, CSUF, CSULB, SDSU.
Personal Statements: In progress. Writting about my **** record in highschool and terrible influences. Joined the military to find a sense of purpose and direction and how I have done a complete 360. How the military changed me and instilled values in me. Honor, duty, etc. Relate that to business and accounting.
Are we required to send in a personal statement? Or is it just the personal insight Qs?
@laccstudent yes I will and me too I only care about USC but if I also want to have a back up plan just in case. Nothing is for sure in the application process and USC should be aware of that. Especially for juniors who have spent two years at community college and don’t want to be there longer.
@haroldstran first I’d like to say thank you for serving our country and secondly your complete 360 is something admissions will definitely like. In terms of your classes completed are you following the transfer articulation between your community college and USC to make sure your classes are transferable. Also have you completed the majority of the General ed for USC. Lastly have you finished any type of calculus class or will be completing it either this fall or the upcoming winter and spring session at your school.
@Pantafootball I finished 95% of the revised GE tract that rolled out in 2015. Turns out I was suppose to be following the old articulation. Transfer counselor told me to just finish whatever I can on the old GE. I don’t want to stay at a CC any longer so I guess I’m going to be missing 3 courses. I have finished most of the recommended classes for my major excluding calculus. Which I will be taking during spring.
I know that most UCs switched to the personal insight questions. Will I still be able to submit a personal statement? I feel like I could explain things a lot better with an actual essay instead of short answers.
@haroldstran USC’s application is already available on Common App, so you can actually being completing that if you’d like. There are 2 250 word essay prompts and some other personal questions, I don’t believe there’s a personal statement but you should be able to express what you would in a personal statement in those 2 essays
@Pantafootball Thank you very much. You are truly a big help!
On the bright side, I really can use another year in college either way. I can expect to get rejected by USC or UCLA for having 2 No Passes and 4 Ws.
@haroldstran focus on completing that calculus course. USC is going to ask you for a report of the final grade since it is a requirement for admission any applicants lacking calculus will automatically be declined. Looks like you’re good on Ges though
@laccstudent were those recent ? That may be a bad thing :-/
@Pantafootball Thank you for the advice. Good luck to all! Hope to see more people once deadlines get closer.
