2017 - 2018 USC Transfer

There are patterns that we should follow to get the best chance of good results but there are always anomalies

Anyone know if our regional admissions counselors actually review our applications? Just curious because I’ve heard a few different answers and it could be beneficial for those who have kept good communication with their counselors

Hey guys,

Transferring from an out-of-state 4 year university. How does USC evaluate which credits can be transferred? Do we have to submit a form of some kind for every class we think is transferrable?

Thanks

Hi y’all, I had a question about my english requirement!

So, I have definitely completed it through my required First-Year writing seminar/class at my university but on my transcript the word “writing” does not show up… Basically, it says “First-Year Seminar” on my transcript. I’m a little concerned that admissions will not understand that this class is my writing requirement…

Should I email my syllabus to my admissions counselor to give her a heads up? I just have no idea what to do and I don’t want to be rejected based off this…

Any advice will be welcomed!! :slight_smile: Fight on!

@strugglinginvain follow this link: https://camel2.usc.edu/articagrmt/artic_hist_range.aspx and find your school. This articulation agreement will list all of the classes that have been evaluated in the past for transfer credit from past transfer students coming from your school. As long as it is not listed under the non-transferable section, then you shouldn’t have to send anything to them unless they ask you later. However, after you are accepted, they may ask you for a syllabus and all copies of essays from the class that you have written to evaluate the course for credit in order to fulfill the lower division writing requirement. They may also ask you for syllabi from some GE courses as well so that they can decide whether or not to give you elective credit or GE credit for certain courses that are borderline, but for admissions purposes, I don’t think you need to send any syllabi in unless they specifically ask you.

@strugglinginvain also since you have an admissions counselor that deals directly with your school, they probably know what it is since you won’t be the first person to apply to transfer. However, if you want, contacting them directly isn’t a bad idea but you probably shouldn’t send them the syllabus itself unless they ask for it because you don’t want to burden them with too much stuff to read.

Did anyone apply to the Annenberg school for Communication and Journalism? :slight_smile:

So should I send in my grades ASAP?

@johnfuentesa yes

@sportsnerd24 me! I applied as a Comm major. PR as 2nd major.

@jae2017 awesome! Hopefully we both get in! How did you feel about the supplemental questions for Annenberg?

@SportsNerd24 Honestly, I thought it was a bit repetitive, specially with the Common App essay. I chose the “If there is one thing to know about you…” question, and then the “Explain your educational interests…and why is annenberg the best match for you,” I answered with more about myself, why I think I’m a good fit for the major, and why I want to go to Annenberg. The last one (Describe how you plan to pursue), I said why I chose my majors and what I plan to do at USC, like research opportunities and orgs I want to join. How about you?

any applicants to Davis School of Gerontology???

@emorylove97 transferable credits are determined via the USC articulation. They have an articulation between most schools so google “USC articulation” and from there search for the agreement they have between your school and USC to determine which courses will transfer and what they will transfer into at USC. If an agreement exists between your school and USC then there will be a complete list of courses that will transfer and will not transfer. Hope this helps!

@emorylove97 here is the link for you to search for your school’s articulation agreement with USC:

@jae2017 Yeah, I completely agree that it seemed a little repetitive, especially with what the Common App essay already asks of us. For the first question I chose the one about experiencing a new perspective or idea, so I wrote about my time at a Catholic high school and being explored to new religions besides Catholicism. For the second one (pursuing academic interests at USC), I talked about demonstrating my writing and communication skills as a sports journalist and what I’ve already done as a sports blogger and as a sports television host with my own show at my internship. Finally, for the third one (why Annenberg is right for you) I talked about wanting to learn from professionals on how to go from an amateur sports journalist to a professional!

Hopefully the admissions office likes the both of us!

@SportsNerd24 definitely agree!

Hey everyone :slight_smile: So, USC has literally been a childhood dream of mine and probably you guys too and I’m so nervous! I applied as junior transfer for fall 2017 from a California cc and didn’t do too well this past fall semester, still got an A & B but 2 C’s in some gen ed electives :frowning: Im just wondering if you guys think they’ll ask for a spring grade request still because those are gonna be the most recent final grades they’ll see from me. Hopefully someone can give their input because I’m kinda freaking out lol thanks!

@melmc 1. What is your overall gpa? 2. How many of the GE’s and major reqs have you completed or will complete by this spring?

Hey guys! I’ve applied to USC as a journalism major. My passion is sports, so I would really appreciate it if you guys could take a look at my new show! https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCNGt97ojRjxNVp3KKSgsYeA/videos

Would love comments and feedback! Thanks!
