2017 - 2018 USC Transfer

I don’t think I have enough GEs! I have a whole bunch of Quantitative Reasoning courses because the business school in my university wanted us to take business-oriented courses with a small emphasis on Diversity, Global Perspective, Sciences, etc. On the bright side, I am confident that I more than satisfied the prereqs for Marshall Business. Is meeting GE requirements emphasized? Are you likely rejected for having lack of GE’s? o.o

@emorylove97 How many GEs have you done?

@emorylove97 yes, there is a huge emphasis on GE’s, especially for sophomore applicants because USC wants their transfers to take major related courses while in attendance. @pomeranian4rich was actually rejected last year, had a 3.8 in the fall, received an SGR, and got a 4.0 in the spring. Completed a bunch of major prereqs, but only 2 GEs, and ended up being rejected in the middle of July. I’m not saying you won’t get in, but GEs can indeed be the difference between an acceptance and a rejection.

@Psawyer113096 around 2 or 3 of the 8 GEs
@penntousc dang…thanks for the info!

@penntousc Hell yaa I dont have any major courses but all GEs

as a sophomore applicant, is having completed 6/8 GE’s (by spring) enough?

@Skepta that’s basically the maximum you can take since USC requires 2/8 GEs to be completed at their campus. but there are also the 2 Global Perspective GEs in addition to the 8 Core Literacies GEs.

@Skepta I think that 6 is a good number for sophomore applicants, but I may be biased since I too have 6…

@CornellAEMplease yeah I’m basically in the same situation except that I also had the two semesters of writing and calculus… also I ran out of courses on my articulation agreement so hopefully whatever I did was enough lol

I have like 4 GE’s completed, but I am taking 4 GEs this semester. I wonder if they will take those into account

I got my youSC portal email this morning. So excited!!!

I applied January 31st and I still haven’t received my youSC portal email. Anyone in the same predicament ?

@Orlando1997 yup, me too

for engineering, they don’t really care about your overall gpa or GEN eds. They mostly care about how well you did in classes like calculus

@greenpotatoe yeah in the Viterbi Live Chat they mentioned that, but essays and passion are also important!

For the GE requirements can certain courses be used multiple times for different requirements?

I loved the Viterbi live chat, they were all so enthusiastic and joked around a lot. It was pretty refreshing!
I do think they “kinda” downplayed the importance of our GPAs to encourage more people to apply(needless to say, there have been 4.0’s who have been rejected and 3.0’s who have been accepted). They really did stress that there’s no magic formula to it all.
It’s that ever present constant of luck striking again. :-/

@arsenalforever yes, some may count for two GE requirements. For example, one of my GEs is Western Civilization II (which is given as an example), and they will count for both one of the core literacies and one of the global perspectives.

Does anybody know how USC evaluates GPA? Do they only it based on classes they will accept or overall GPA?

@Mastodon97 it’s based on transferable courses

Do you think it was a bad idea to list ucla.edu as your favorite website/app for the supplementary questions. Do you think it shows bravery
