2017 Harvard Waitlist Thread

Congrats, Manifold!

Concertono, I am with you. It makes no sense not to release most if they are full. Why prolong the limbo, especially if the chances are already remote?

Does anyone think we might hear today? The last couple years it has been.

Has anyone else heard anything?

@entomom, if they don’t release kids today like in the past years I am going to be more and more convinced that their yield is not at 82%. They probably put that up as a target and still trying to work through knowing that anyone pulled off the waitlist is probably a 100% yield. This along with the number of people on the FB admitted students 2017 vs. 2016. See my earlier post on this. Who knows anymore

FB groups don’t mean anything, i know people who leave a college FB group after matriculating at another school, some who join after having just found out about it, etc.

No news here yet. I doubt that Harvard would lie about its yield – that’s probably not the reason no one’s been kicked off the waitlist so far.

Most likely, we haven’t heard much because the committee hasn’t reached a point where decisions can be made yet. Last year it was relatively clear cut how many students they were going to take, and they were able to let some waitlisted students in around mid-May. Since the class is completely full as of now this year, they can’t take any additional students until matriculation statistics are revealed. They probably want to defer making any decisions (including rejections) until then.

@ Jellyksong - If their class is full how can they not be sure about who is matriculating. If last year they were sure and could release kids ~18th what makes them less sure this year. Anyways, DH, DD and myself talked about it last night and decided it was too stressful. She has already committed to Stanford. We wanted her close and we live in the North East, she is going to make the ultimate decision to take herself off the wait list next week and mentally and emotionally commit to Stanford. Good luck to all of you. CC was very helpful during this process and I wish you all well. You will all do very well in the future.

Some students can choose to take a gap year, which will open up a handful of spots in this year’s class. But there won’t be any spots until these students choose, which is probably why they’re not saying anything until June.

And Stanford is an amazing school! I’m sure your daughter will do great there :)

Thanks @jellyksong. It is a relief. Good luck to you. DD tried to go into this site this morning [Applicant Status](http://admweb.fas.harvard.edu/ha/Applicant/ApplicantFrame.html) to get her name out of the waitlist but is unable to log in. She says she was able to get in until yesterday. Can anyone else log in, if not I guess she has to call them tomorrow or she is already out or they are maintaining the system. Can someone else see if they can get in. Thanks

I didn’t put in a “valid” combination. Based off of last year’s posts I think that means we’ve been cut and probably will be alerted Monday or Tuesday.

Thanks @cedardog. So DD is either going to call to withdraw this week or she will get an email that is she is out. Nice to finally see her make light of the situation, " finally I don’t have to worry about a rich, famous north east prep boy snatching me away at the last minute from the wild CA hippie who loved me all along." After 4 years and a wild ride she seems happy with the wild hippie from the west. Good luck you will all do great and laugh about this in a few years. Just remember you are all special and wonderful and no college letter takes that away

It says my access code is invalid. That’s a sign we’ve been rejected, right Cedardog? How unfortunate.

Yep, me too. Oh well.

Have any of you tried to retrieve your access code by putting in your email address? If denied, this seemed to indicate a “cut” from the waitlist in the 2016 thread?

I just requested my access code and it did send me one.

harvardwait17 - does the access code you just got sent work?

It hasn’t arrived yet, but the system did say they’re sending one to that address. It seems to take a little while for them to arrive. When I get it, I’ll post here.

I read that last year they took the website down for everyone, both admitted and rejected, the day before they sent out decisions.

Question: if you don’t hear anything until June, does that mean you are most likely going to be accepted, either to this year’s class or the z-list? I am wondering if it’s common for an applicant to be held onto until the summer and eventually get rejected.
