***2017 National Merit Finalist Thread***

letter arrived today in florida. YES!

@cavemom yes, it was lucky. She asked for our school’s code. I didn’t have it handy, and told her the school and location, and she said it would be easier if she had the school code. So I said, can you look up a student? She said, just one? What’s his name. In hindsight, she must have thought I was calling from the school.

Lucky indeed. Strange process. But it is what it is. Again best to all.

@Tex151 I am just north of Dallas!

Funny thing
 School just sent a msg saying they got the award list. Usually on a Friday, all the admin are done and gone by this time! They really made the effort before the weekend. So, double confirmation. Mail must have been late. Great weekend to all.

Here in MN, D is a finalist!!! Found out today.

201 lookin for the write schule -> Yup, I almost bet that was the case. She asked me if I am counselor or student. Bummer, I said student :) Then she said she cannot give info. Upon further plea, she went to supervisor and came back to take the student name. She checked further and could provider the above information. She was kind though.

Nothing from our school in Utah yet. They probably received the letter and it’s sitting in a stack in an office somewhere - that’s what happened with SF before I finally had them check. I’m not worried enough to call because DS’s chosen college has a tiny NM scholarship (they already awarded him their largest merit amount so this would just be icing on the cake). I guess we’ll wait until we actually get the letter ourselves next week. I don’t see any reason why he wouldn’t have gotten finalist. He has a 4.0 GPA, 1450 PSAT, 1500 SAT. shrug

@curiouscat319 : Have you heard anything yet?

Still waiting in California

Letter arrived today at our house (homeschool). DD is a finalist
 but apparently there is now another delay until we are notified if she will actually receive any type of scholarship from NMSC. Confusing.

DD received her letter from school this afternoon :slight_smile: SW FL

Congratulations to everyone. To our snow bound fellow CC’ers, looking forward to reading your good news.

(To tex, how awesome your son’s principal is so proud! Our’s was pretty meh about it. I’m trying not to picture the big deal they made over sports seniors commits, when our HS has five NMF’s
)
But, very happy for all of us, so go Academia! :slight_smile:

Thank you to all that took part keeping us informed during the journey. It helped.

@prospect17 nope

Surely letters mailed the 6th have reached principals by now? I haven’t heard anything from my principal, but I’m also very far west.

To everyone waiting on the mail. I have read the letter that came with the certificate and in my opinion and only my opinion it seems that if you didn’t make finalist then you would have already gotten a letter at your house. I could be mistaken however I read it several times and that is what I got from it. I hope this helps ease some worries. For all those still waiting
HANG in There!! My finger and toes are still crossed for everyone on this thread to get good news.

My school received the letters today. Since we’re an Oklahoma school with 9 finalists (the most we’ve ever have), the administration was just as eagered as we were to find out. I will say that one of our semifinalists did not make it, but I do not know the reasons. Good luck to everyone still waiting!

@Okie2017
question. Did the person that didn’t make finalist already get a letter from NMSC at their home?

@Okie2017
Congratulations!!!

No idea. I just know that she wasn’t named a finalist.

Also, here are my stats for the future worriers:
State: Oklahoma
GPA: 3.76
Weighted: 4.29
PSAT: 1430/213
SAT: 1480
One C during Freshman year
10 AP classes

Letter received in Idaho (we home school) but had to wait until everyone was home to experience together. S was confirmed as a finalist, which is very exciting. Congratulaions to all the participants, it has been fun to follow the process and anxious long wait with the CC community. Keep up the hard work and continue to distinguish yourselves in your next chapter!
