2017 Windows on Wiliams (WOW) Discussion

Anyone have the phone call yet? How did it go?

@YoLolololol Did you?

Ahh, I submitted my application… Not that it’ll go anywhere, because I am neither low-income nor urm, but it’s worth a shot. :-S

hey guys, how long was your academic writing piece? the one im interested in sending in is like 1470 words, and im not sure if that’s pushing it…i also have another piece that’s 400 words, and im not sure which one to send in. thanks and good luck all!

@friendfiend If it is within the requirements they give you it should be fine. Pick which ever one you think is better.

@YoLolololol Just had the phone call today!
Nothing particularly useful imo.
Basically a Q&A about Williams and there wasn’t specific feedback about my WOW App, just redundant tips about the Common App.
Also, lady said they’ve had over 1,000 WOW apps so its been SUPER competitive.
And that my SAT needed improvement (Geesh like I didn’t fracking know that!)
But encouraged me to apply since my Academics was competitive just the test scores weren’t up to par.
Ja ne~

@AlmightySadist that means the admission rate for the early program was under 10%, that’s crazy

@MaybeHarvard2022 They took 200 kids didn’t they. It is prob closer to last years 16%.

I thought it was a total of 200 kids from the early and late cycle @kassh4

So 100 this round and 100 for the august decision date @kassh4

@MaybeHarvard2022 I feel like doing 100 for each round would be unfair. I feel like the more “qualified” kids would end up submitting their app in the early round making the second round weaker. They’ll release the numbers on their blog later telling us the official acceptance rates and stuff, but in general, WOW is super competative.

@williams2021 how many students are selected for each cycle?

@MaybeHarvard2022 Last year they told me the acceptance rate hovers around 15%(~240/1600.) I don’t think they give advantage to either cycle.

I found this on a Williams student blog

“Windows on Williams hits pretty much all of those benchmarks: everyone gets their travel paid for, each session of WOW is around 100 students, only 16% of WOW applicants get in…”

I just sent my application in about a week ago. Anyone know when we hear back?

@Shisuii You should hear back on Aug 17

Ok awesome. Pretty excited. How about you? @kassh4

@Shisuii Me and @kassh4 were both accepted in the first cycle, if you have any questions feel free to ask.

do those who don’t get accepted get a fee waiver? and could someone explain the phone call situation? thanks friends  i applied by the 8/1 deadline

Hello class of 2018,

To what other diversity travel programs, such as WOW, have you applied for?
