Everyone that did not get in should apply ED or RD. WOW is very competitive and getting rejected does not mean rejection from the school. Also if you applied to WOW you prob got a CSS Waiver and an application waiver. This means that it will cost you nothing to apply. Also, Williams has one “optional” supplement, so essay wise it should not take that long.
@williams2021 Do you have like a template or something we can use to fill out our info. I dont wanna forget anything.
I got my email but I’m too scared to look
@lifeasjesus I just told myself that not checking isnt going to change the answer, and then I had the courage to pull the trigger. Good luck!
@YoLolololol That sucks! You seem super qualified too - did they explain why they rejected you? Good luck with other fly-ins!!
Yolololol, three years ago my son got a phone call and a fee waiver too. The phone call was the tip that they really would have considered him for admission. In his case he had already visited campus. Did they say anything specific?
I wouldn’t give up on Williams, but even if you did, your stats are great and you are definitely headed to a top college.
AlmightySadist I wasn’t sure if maybe you also got a fee waiver and a phone call? And are you guys Questbridge scholars? Did you apply to other fly-ins?
@Auracle
Nope, just a rejection letter. Hopefully I can ask them during the phone call.
@momcinco
I didn’t have a phone call yet. Was your son ultimately accepted at Williams? Honestly really bummed, thought I had good chance since I’m low-income but eh. I guess I just have to move on.
@Volunteerism
My updated AP and SAT scores.
@momcinco I got the fee waiver and phone call. I guess everyone gets it?
And yeah, I’m a QB Prep-Scholar.
I just applied to Swarthmore Fly-in and will be applying to more. Realllyyy want Swarthmore cause, SWAT-TEAM.
@AlmightySadist
They emailed you to ask for your updated AP and SATs…?
Same I really want Swarthmore ahh…
@YoLolololol
Yeah. I left them a note that my SAT is a little old since it was from January but my June one will be ready in July as well as my May 2017 AP scores (since my only one was not that good).
I honestly was not expecting for them to want them since score releases were so close to decision release.
But I guess it was fluff since I got rejected anyway.
Here are some more ideas for fly-ins. Son #2 is applying to five, hoping to attend at least one… He also tried for Swarthmore (fingers crossed). What about Amherst DIVOH, due mid-Aug?
There is a lot of competition. Just look at how many views this thread got!! A lot of students must be interested. Don’t take it too personally, and be sure to try for several – and include some that are of less selective range (Swarthnore is now at a 10% acceptance rate!)

I have a naïve question, and apologize if it has already been answered before. I haven’t read through the entire thread yet.
Is the WOW program and other fly-in programs only open to URM, low income, and first generation?
@bogeyorpar URM, low income, or first generation. URM, low income, and first generation is ideal tho.
@kassh4 On the Williams web site, it says “WOW is a selective program open to high school students in the U.S. and Puerto Rico; preference is given to high-achieving students who couldn’t otherwise afford to visit Williams.” It seems like low income will get preference treatment, but it does not preclude other applicants. It didn’t mention URM or first generation at all. Note that URM and first generation can be rich too.
@bogeyorpar It is open to anyone, but most students who are selected come from one of those backgrounds. This is true with almost every other fly in program.
GRR… I did so little writing in school this year. None of my options are good enough!
yes, the target audience for these fly-in programs are URM, low income URM and first gen. You fill out an app and send an unofficial transcript. On the app they typically ask you to document your SAT or PSAT or ACT and your parents’ income bracket, as well as to complete a couple essays about your background.
@Auracle Yea, I had to pick between 3 essays, and 2 of them had super weird formatting that my teacher made us do to a point where they weren’t even essays so I sent the only real essay I had.
Two of my options are from a political science class (concurrent enrollment) - is that close enough or should I stick to the one half decent essay I have from english?
@Auracle That should be fine. They said English or History class. Political Science is kind of like history.
