Do I NEED to file the CSS profile, or is the FAFSA sufficient? I do not feel like spending $41 on the CSS…
@Alpinyo. I would also call them to clarify what you can do in that situation. Low grades can affect you significantly, but from what i can see in your explanation, it is quite reasonable. So take advantage of getting that internship, and mention what you have gained while skipping the classes. I wish you the best of luck man!
Also, I wish the best of luck to every single applicant! Hope we all will receive that fancy acceptance package!
@aznboi4981 If you’re looking to get financial aid, yeah. I didn’t like the CSS either. But just like FAFSA, you have to complete it annually for USC. The second time I filled it out, I had pretty much forgotten my login info, so it was pretty annoying. They won’t process your aid without it.
@zettasyntax Just paid up. Thank you!
I put on my common app that i was taking a class but i had to switch to another because although it was a GE, it was for english majors and i switched to another GE instead. Not a major prep course btw. Do i send an email to my usc admissions counselor or do i upload a document on yousc explaining the change?
question, did the CSS profile need to be filled out by March 2nd just like FAFSA or can it be submitted anytime?
@GxBearrr It had to be filled out and submitted/uploaded by the 2nd
What are my chances of getting accepted with a 3.56 gpa? I’m a junior from a CCC and a political science major. I read on here that they value an upward grade trend more than the actual gpa. My last 9 classes have been all A’s so hopefully that’s a good enough trend.
Hey guys. I am a sophomore student who hopes to transfer to USC in my junior year. I went to the State University of New Jersey(Rutgers-NB) and had an accumulative GPA of 3.7. I am not sure if my GPA is competitive enough to because the average GPA for the last year was also 3.7. By the way, does anyone know when can we know the final transfer decisions? The Admission Office told me that they will release decisions by May 1st. But that is actually the deadline for our transfer applicants to make the final decisions! So it cannot be that late, right? Hope somebody can answer my question.
They will start rolling out in late March, just a few then (mostly TTP in March), with the bulk of regular transfer notifications in April. You should be fine, but there are quite a few that don’t find out until later because they ask for more info (SGR). So hope for the best, you may need to ask for an extension at your current school, but you can do that close to the deadlines after you can see how it is playing out.
Transfer decisions move fast, you should really know what you would want to do if you get in - meaning know if you can afford it, etc. There’s not a lot of time to ponder and students are in the middle of finals, end of year stuff, so do the “thinking about it” now.
@lovetoast05 hello! I transferred to USC Marshall this past Fall (2017) and was roaming this year’s threads in case anyone had questions that I could help with.
So it’s true that you have to take Micro/Macroeconomics and Accounting at Marshall, but rather than four courses, it’ll be three. You will have to take ECON 351 (Micro), ECON 352 (Macro), and BUAD 305 (an accounting review course that combines Financial and Managerial accounting). That’ll probably mean an extra semester unless you take a heavier courseload. I will graduate a semester late, but that’s because I’m an Accounting major (150 units vs. 120).
Honestly, those three classes are quite challenging. CC economics or accounting classes are nothing compared to them and if you don’t take those courses here at Marshall, you’d probably struggle a lot with your upper division courses.
**If anyone has any questions about Marshall, I’d be happy to help!
@GxBearrr - Last year, people at my CC started hearing back at the beginning of May. I got my letter around Mother’s Day. Also, your portal won’t update until around the time you get the snail mail.
@mavsp1 - When I asked the other transfer students I came in with in the fall, most of them were at least 3.7
Some of the spring admits I talked with this semester seemed to have between 3.5 and 3.7 GPAs. I’m not sure if the people I asked just happened to have lower GPAs or if that’s an actual thing. I hear they do that to make the Fall admitted student stats look better, but I could never know for sure.
Anyhow, the fact that your last 9 classes were all A’s is really promising.
@lanterngirl I’ve never understood the spring admit thing. My GPA was 3.9 something (3.95?). After not getting in the first time I tried, I had racked up 100 units with one B and the rest A’s. I don’t think my GPA would have hurt the fall transfer statistics, but I was still admitted as a spring admit. I remember somebody saying that having too many units could be a possible reason for spring admission. I don’t understanding the reasoning behind that one if it’s actually true.
@zettasyntax - I really wish I knew the reasoning behind it as well. Perhaps they know some people need five semesters and start them in the spring so that they graduate in the summer, or maybe they just pick based on personality your region.
There are other kids for my high school who go to USC is well, so I don’t think would be terribly different, but they were admitted in the spring whereas I was admitted in the fall.
If it helps, I wasn’t asked for a SGR so I registered in May. Maybe if you were given an SGR it would explain a spring admission?
@lanterngirl When you got rejected in the fall, did you have to reapply for the spring? Or did USC automatically take you as a spring admit?
@lanterngirl
Hi, i applied to marshall as well. I am wondering if you could share more details on how you transferred. For example, did you apply as a sophomore or junior? Did u take micro and macro at ur CC?
Thanks in advance!
I applied as a Junior because I was at another university when the application period had passed for me to apply as a sophomore. I took macroeconomics at my old University and microeconomics at my community college.
I was accepted to USC as a fall admit (no SGR) so I’m not sure what the process is for those who are accepted in the Spring. However, Spring Admits are given their acceptances/rejections at the same time that Fall Admits are given theirs. I also have no clue what the SGR process is like.
My acceptance package came specifying that I was accepted for the Fall semester, so Spring Admits likely get the same package, but theirs would specify that they were admitted for the spring.
If you get an acceptance and you’re not sure what semester you start in, it’ll become pretty clear when you can’t register for classes as that happens at orientation during the summer. Spring Admits have a separate orientation during the winter.
