@OmaNebr business
@penntousc Good to see you again!! You were really active last year and your posts helped me out a lot so thank you. How was your first year?
@bantisz Thank you! I received it via portal today!
I hope I get an SGR, I got rejected from Northwestern yesterday, but USC is my dream school this one is going to be a lot worse
@Kvadhan789 omg i was about to apply to northwestern. sorry about that. it was kinda my dream but i knew i had a low chance of getting in anyway bc they take standardized tests into consideration
Is it mostly the schools that require prerequisite completion as a condition for admission that issue SGRs? Just wondering because I know that the transfer brochure says “for majors in
business, science, engineering, architecture and dental hygiene, completion of these courses is required for admission” so it makes sense that they’d wanna see spring grades in those classes. But what about majors for which prereqs aren’t a requirement for admission? Are just as many psych and sociology majors getting spring grade requests, or are those usually motivated by other factors, like inconsistent grades?
@smc2usc I go to smc too, my counselor told me that usually if you finish all of the prereqs for your major in fall and winter they just send out an acceptance of rejection. If they do ask for spring grades it may be due to the amount of competition!
wait so they removed “appeal admission decision” and deleted their FAQ on appeals… are appeals gone for good?
Yes!! I applied as a junior for pre-accountancy.
@mamba14 No I doubt they’d remove appeals altogether. They’ll put the option back when more people start getting rejections.
For those who get rejected, don’t give up! I got in through an appeal last year. (:
Do you guys think I should send in an additional rec letter from my comm professor (i applied for comm first choice, sociology second)? The one they currently have is from my sociology professor. The app was due while I was having the comm class so I couldn’t use that rec, but he wrote me one after the quarter ended, which I used for other schools I applied to.
@jenanniee Wow! How did you pull that off?
Does anyone know if they look at/ require HS transcript and SAT score when applying as a transfer? If so, is it mandatory to submit?
@CaliUSA7 nope! Transfers are not required to submit test scores, the admission decision is based entirely off of your college work!
@penntousc Even if you have only one year of college work? That seems great but probs will apply as a junior cuz USC might ruin my grades to get into graduate school.
@CaliUSA7 Pretty sure graduate schools won’t be interested in your lower division GPA from a cc or another college if you’re applying as a gruaduate of USC. Yeah, they might concatenate the two, but you won’t overcome a meager upper division GPA from USC with a stellar lower division GPA from another school. Graduate admissions are really only interested in your last two years of work, anyway (once you get past the initial sweep to get rid of bad applicants)
Will not having one major prereq done by the term prior to transfer heavily harm my chances of getting in ?
@CaliUSA7 yup, even if you’re entering as a sophomore. They’ll probably request spring grades at some point though, as they do for almost all sophomore applicants.
@scarletred true, they going to look at upper division courses more. But I did take AP’s so might get upper division in sophomore year. I just went to this really competitive high school and got average grades even if I tried hard- it ruined my chances of getting into a great college while people in easy high schools get accepted easily cuz of higher gpa. So now I’m trying to be careful with my school and gpa. I’m not going to a community college tho. I’m just scared USC level colleges will do the same thing to me AGAIN.
