@aznboi4981 They could also admit you for your second choice major, assuming that isn’t undecided. The assumption that they automatically reject anyone who hasn’t completed all their prerequisites is only true for certain schools/majors. The website states that “for majors in
business, science, engineering, architecture and dental hygiene, completion of these courses is required for admission.” For the others, they say it’s a suggestion to be competitive in the applicant pool.
I applied as a bio major, completed the GE’s but only 6/9 major prereqs so far, such as my ochem series and my last physics class. Am i going to be automatically rejected or is it possible to be accepted and just finish those classes off at USC?
I wouldn’t recommend paying any attention to financial aid changes—decisions will begin to consistently roll out at the very end of April or first week of May, so you all won’t be waiting too much longer anyways.
Ignore anyone that comes on here and stresses that you need to “RELAX”, I and another cohort of current SC students were dropping messages in here 10+ times each day last year, and a lot of us were accepted. Everyone’s probably experiencing a lot of anxiety waiting for this decision, and this thread is the best place to try to relieve that stress.
The transfers that have the best shot at being accepted will have the following:
High GPA (though there is no cut off)
Major prerequisites completed—math and writing minimum (there’ve been instances where they allow you to complete them in residence, so not always true)
Most or all of General education requirements completed (there’s a limit of 8 outside residence)
Few discrepancies on your transcript—fails, withdrawals, etc. to show that you can handle the course load
Other things that can have a minor influence on admission include strong essays, really strong extracurriculars, strong recommendations, and even early and frequent communication with your regional counselor (I feel this heavily impacted the early timing of my decision).
Hopefully this gives you all a better idea of where you might stand if you don’t already know. While USC is obviously very selective, a lot of you will probably be accepted because you’ve done your due diligence and taken all of the necessary steps. If you’re not accepted and you’re going to be sophomore, you’ve got another shot next year. Good to see some familiar names on here, and I hope that those of you who put time in on the thread last year get your acceptances this time around! Best of luck to everyone!
@tytransfer Do they have articulation histories accessible to everyone or just those that have applied? I know there is is section on the USC website with articulation histories from some Cal State schools and a few others, but I would like to know about my CC since I am OOS. I won’t be applying until next year but I would like to have the peace of mind knowing that my credits would transfer.
@phunphunphun I actually had emailed my counselor about this and she had said that “we dont expect students to have completed all requirements” she said majority of the major prep work as well as the Ge’s should be done
@penntousc Do you see the “program of study” thing under any year that you attended USC? I mean I agree we shouldn’t read too much into small changes on the website, but I disagree with the argument that USC is too good and experienced to not let things slip. After all, they had the whole “Denied applicant” fiasco thing this year for freshman apps. It seems like the whole FA system uses third party software, so it wouldn’t surprise me if there are a few holes.
@csumit oh I’m completely aware that USC slips, it happens a bunch of times every year. I wouldn’t be able to answer that though because I didn’t inspect my portal enough while waiting to know whether or not anything changed. There’s going to come a time where something on everyone’s portal will probably signify that a decision has been made, but I think it varies from year to year.
I can still see my FA stuff from summer 2017 and I also don’t see a Program of Study section. I can’t say I ever remember seeing it either. Maybe it’s a new thing?
Are any of you transferring from LMU? I’m a senior in HS this year and was offered TTP. I’m going to commit to LMU for a year and was wondering if I could maybe talk to someone else about course selection? I’ve been using the articulation agreement but would love to talk to someone who is in a similar situation.
How many have heard from USC and are transferring from a four-year university?
