@saddletransfer are you a junior?
@Kvadhan789 yes, 48 units complete 16 in progress.
Hi, do you guys think if I was to take a requirement for my major this summer it would mean anything to USC?
I emailed my advisor this question and she said,
“If it is a course that is geared toward the major and you are currently taking it we may wait until you receive a final grade to render a decision. It depends; we will let you know as the process continues”.
So I’m not sure what to make of that, because I said “summer”, not “currently taking it”. And one final note the summer class ends July 5th, so I could send them my grades shortly after that. So do you guys think it is worth taking the class? Thank you
@saddletransfer are u taking any GE’s or stuff maybe thats why they need a sgr.
I’m a Marshall applicant (second choice was Dornsife). Does Dornsife have any prereq requirements? The website says they do not care if you completed gen-eds/prereqs or not since they want you to take advantage of USC’s gen-ed program…
@mamba14 USC recommends to finish your major requirement(s) by the very latest, spring semester. I believe if you take it in the summer, they won’t hold off on a decision until you finish. I applied last year and told my counselor I was taking Calc I in the summer (my Business Calc wasn’t equivalent to USC’s) and still got denied pretty early on around the end of May. This was my cases, but could be different for others!
Since your summer session ends pretty early, I would say you should take it and send it in asap if they haven’t made a decision. Are you applying as incoming soph or incoming junior?
@aznboi4981 Did you check the “Transferring to USC” brochure? Under additional course work by Major. Here it is if you didn’t see it. https://admission.usc.edu/docs/TransferringToUSC.pdf
Theres a lot of resources and information on the USC’s website, remember to check you guys!
@xxanonxx I’m applying as an incoming soph. (and I wasn’t able to take the class during my fall or spring semester). I’m just torn because I don’t want to spend money on a class that I’m not sure will even help. Thanks for your response
Just a general curiosity question (which I am 99.9% sure someone has probably asked, but I would love a fresh perspective).
Let’s say USC requests your spring grades (they have not asked me for mine, this is pure speculation), and you do “okay” in your spring semester. Like you get 3 As, and 2 Bs. But the classes you get Bs in were hard classes (like a 3 unit communications speech class and a 5 unit physics class). Therefore you go down from your previous upward trend of straight As. I know USC takes a holistic look at their applicants but your overall final spring semester grades are not that impressive, how much does this affect their decision?
Note: I am doing well in all my classes this spring, I am just thinking worst case scenario like I bomb these classes at the end or something…
Has anyone been accepted to Marshall, who still had Calculus in progress?
@mamba14 I’m sort of in the same situation as you. I have a three-week economics course that ends on the 31st of May, and my counselor told me to send in the grades ASAP if I haven’t heard back from USC by the time grades for that course have been uploaded
@cs23305 darn it. dont know if this is a bad sign or not lol… what im a marshall applicant, how about you?
hey guys, so I’m in a weird situation. So about a month ago, on my USC portal, it said that I needed to submit my university transcript, even though I already did. Like most people, I assumed it was the SGR, even though it never explicitly stated it was the SGR. I emailed my counselor about it, and she said it was because of a lack of spring grades, and she said she’d remove it until the spring semester was over. I also called USC, and they said they needed spring grades, but never mentioned the spring grade request. Any idea of what this means??? ( this happened like 3-4 weeks ago).
i applied for marshall but now i want to change my major to computer science… is it too late since i dont think they reviewed my app yet. can i email them to if i can be considered for vertibi instead?
@firelordozaii Did it say you were “missing” your transcripts? @lovetoast05 and I both received emails saying USC was missing our transcripts from our schools from our file (even though we had sent them months ago).
Mine specifically said: “We have received your application for admission but wanted to let you know some items are still missing from your file. We have listed these items below:
academic transcripts, including coursework from the most recent semester as indicated below:
My School’s Name”
Is this a similar message that you received? @lovetoast05 was told by their counselor that the email was NOT a SGR, and that the email was sent was because they sent the wrong type of transcript when they submitted my application. So maybe you just need to resend your regular official transcripts?
@giriboy im sure you could email them, but viterbi applicants had to do an additional essay when applying. i would wait and see if you get in, and try to switch afterwards.
@K1w1B1rd yeah i never got that email, it was legit just a transcript request, thats it. Thats why i found it strange, i mean, it couldve been a mistake, who knows. Again this happened a month ago, and im applying to Price, so idk if its different or not.
@xxanonxx Similarly, I can’t take the lower division writing (USC 130) equivalent at GMU because I am a freshman (the GMU equivalent is a 300 level course that forbids freshmen from taking it). Would you recommend I try to take it during the summer or do you think USC will waive it based on my circumstances and let me take it when I transfer?
@CADREAMIN Thanks. I was worried that a connection was very important, and that people without one would have little chance.
Has any Viterbi Applicants get an sgr that is not ttp
@zettasyntax do you remember whether or not both of your rejection and acceptance letters were in the form of a PDF when you check the portal? I’m just wondering what you see and what you don’t see on your portal (housing, financial aid, etc) in both cases so I know what to expect, if you remember
