@jvroomsc Correct, the noncustodial parent waiver is rarely ever approved. The way colleges see it, that parent is still your parent and they have a responsibility to help you pay for college… Even if they are barely involved in your life. It truly sucks. My noncustodial parent filled out the CSS Profile but USC only asked for my tax return along with a letter of non-filing from my custodial parent. They have not asked for any additional documentation from my noncustodial parent (yet).
Of course, and they can’t just leave it off because they want to. Otherwise the world would be full of parent’s divorcing just before the college years. It is rare to get waived except under extreme circumstances which has to be proven by third party documentation. They did very deep on these. Colleges have to treat all parents equally. They recognize that parents do not end their relationship with their children when they divorce and that all parents have a responsibility to provide for their children. They do not think it is fair to ask students who have two married parents to pay more for college than students with two parents who are not married to each other. Of course there are situations that warrant it, but there must be documentation behind it, most commonly from legal system.
@anthofu I’m sure they do. They’re very holistic. Taking a more challenging version of a class should be taken into account. Does it guarantee anything? No. And they will not transfer over as honors classes if you do get accepted. However, it is still good prep for university level classes and can’t hurt. I had a few honors classes as well.
Hey I applied about a month ago and was asked on Thursday to verify income and supply schedules from tax returns. Did anyone else get asked for additional information like this? I’m hoping it’s a good sign/wondering if they go this in depth for all applicants or just acceptances?
FA is totally separate from admissions. You are being asked for information that is missing from your file. That is an easy automated screen they go through for applicants to identify missing items. That’s all.
Is there any chance of non TTP sophomore transfers being admitted at the end of March/early April?
My CC had to resend my transcript to USC last week. The first transcript was sent at the beginning of January, weeks before the deadline, but was never received according to the portal. However now since it’s past the deadline, I’m not sure the second transcript will be accepted. Tried to call admissions yesterday with no luck. Will try again on Monday.
@CADREAMIN tagging you because you’re the expert on USC here
I don’t think it should be a problem, but it is something you should call them about - sometimes hold time is silly long, call when you have something else to do on your laptop or something to keep you busy while you listen to the pre-recorded messages over and over.
Also, you should have a receipt/email from your CC with confirmation that you ordered the first transcript - offer to send that to them. Don’t think they will need it, but good if you have it to offer up.
Does anyone know how to check your application status? I’ve been using the portal they gave us in our email and it’s the page that shows ‘completed’ for transcripts, fee waiver, etc. But on previous threads, people are going on and finding out via you.usc.edu ?
@taki123 The portal that they gave us is the only way to check your application status. They do not appear to be utilizing the youSC portal that they used last year. When I login to the youSC portal, it just shows the pre-applicant page.
I just realized I mistyped my email on my common app so I’m not able to get any emails from the school or from common app as well as get into the portal. I was wondering why I haven’t been getting emails…Should I contact USC about this?
Absolutely. Call admissions.
I’m a TTP student who is applying for Marshall, but would it be held against me if I chose to take Business Calculus (equivalent to the math 118 prerequisite) instead of Calc 1 or Calc 2?
One of my transcripts still hasn’t arrived! Eeeep should I be worried lol
is it too late to send letters of rec lol
Hi everyone,
I applied as a junior level transfer to USC as a business admin major from my CC. I have a GPA of 3.6 which isn’t that high but I am hoping to get it to at least a 3.7 by the end of this quarter. I was a club secretary, part of the honors program, as well as working part time while being a full time student. Also, I dropped out of Calc and I’m taking Business Calc next quarter so do you think that will hurt my chances of getting in? Can someone chance me? This is my first time posting on this website lol. Also does anyone know when we will get our decisions because I called admissions on two separate days and they told me by the end of April and then the end of may so idk. One last question: I need to change my planned courses on the common app and its not letting me, the edit button is greyed out. What should I so? thank you!!!
Hey! I applied to SC too and I have like 2 withdrawals… from what I’ve heard they weight your whole application and dropping one course shouldn’t hurt you as your gpa is good and hopefully your personal statements and extra circulars are good. In terms of the common app I think it is too late for you tp update planned courses. Call the common app in the morning and ask if they can write a note so USC Admissions can see the changes to your app. Or go on the FAQs and see if it is answered there. Goodluck!
Na its still worth a shot. I say better late than never @thelastsupper
Hi everyone! I applied to USC this fall as well as some other UC’s and one out of state private school. I don’t necessarily have the time to post all my stats right now but I just wanted to say hi and that I applied for the Health Promotion and Disease Prevention major! I didn’t really initially consider USC a choice and even if i did get in, it’d be a battle to convince my parents. but I wanted to wish everyone luck on here!
